blessingx Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Paul Motian passed away a week ago and Fresh Air had a nice tribute/older interview that hit upon Bill Evans, Monk, and Keith Jarrett. Worth a listen. "I'm not a showpiece drummer. ... I feel like I'm an accompanist. It's my sort of thing to make the other people sound good, as good as they can be. I feel like I should accompany them, and I should accompany the sound that I am hearing and make it the best that I can — that I can do." Edited December 3, 2011 by blessingx Quote
Voltron Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Thanks for the link, Ric. This was sad news and I was jealous that JP just saw him recently. RIP PM Quote
Tyll Hertsens Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Playing him now. Thanks for the impetus, Ric. RIP Paul. Quote
jp11801 Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Sad to see him go this is a great reminder to go out and see the jazz legends. He was great when I saw him a few years ago at the Vanguard and seemed years younger than his age when behind the drum kit. Quote
ironbut Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 Bummer! I didn't know he died. Saw him a few years back myself and he never missed a beat. Great point about trying to get out and see the greats jp. Quote
