spritzer Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 What about Lexan? Polycarbonate is silly strong...
dsavitsk Posted February 1, 2014 Author Report Posted February 1, 2014 You can't cut it in a laser cutter which makes getting it machined silly expensive.
justin Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 The acrylic cases are, unfortunately, just not strong enough. I wish they were as it would give me an excuse to buy a laser cutter, but I just don't see it as a workable option. I looked into doing glass panels as I know the preference for see-through things, but it was going to be cost prohibitive to get done. If anyone else knows something about getting glass parts made, I am all ears. "Hello, China?"
Dusty Chalk Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 The way AudioValve does it, the frame is metal with glass "windows". Mostly on top, but occasionally on the front: That'd be strong enough, wouldn't it?
Riotvan Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 I like the glass top idea, maybe it would have a nice effect with some tinted glass. Any idea on a price range? I generally don't buy gear from overseas but you make some nice stuff, the L2 is damn sexy.
shellylh Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 The way AudioValve does it, the frame is metal with glass "windows". Mostly on top, but occasionally on the front: That'd be strong enough, wouldn't it? Yeah, but that looks pretty ugly.
Voltron Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Yeah, but that looks pretty ugly. This. In spades.
dsavitsk Posted February 2, 2014 Author Report Posted February 2, 2014 Yeah, but that looks pretty ugly. I'm glad somebody else said it I am thinking that the best option may be to offer the option of a clear top that would be in addition to the metal one. If someone liked it, they could order it and put it on.
dsavitsk Posted February 8, 2014 Author Report Posted February 8, 2014 The ecp audio server has crashed. I am working to get a temporary start page up today.
dsavitsk Posted March 20, 2014 Author Report Posted March 20, 2014 For those who have been waiting patiently, the next set of amplifiers is very close to being ready. Here are a few pics of the final Black Diamond proto. You'll just have to imagine the wood sides -- my wood worker says we should have the initial set done by April 5. 9
nopants Posted March 20, 2014 Report Posted March 20, 2014 Cinemag will stamp a logo on your transformers? That's pretty sick
screaming oranges Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 I've never been good at reviewing gear and, frankly, would never get around to it with so many unfinished personal projects I have going on. Anyhow, if someone will get a Black Diamond for testing/review purposes, I can loan a Joe Grado HP1/2 and a pink-driver RS1 for review as I am interested to hear opinions on synergy with Grado. Within the 48 contiguous states, of course.
Riotvan Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 Can't wait for some more impressions on the BD with the HD800, i'm still not 100% happy amp wise...
shellylh Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 Looks great Doug! I am looking forward to the impressions.
Audio Jester Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 A fine piece of kit Doug! Would it be possible to have a timber top panel as well as the sides? I think that would look pretty stately. ... I'm still pissed that I missed out on the L-2. I hope to get my hands on an ECP someday.
dsavitsk Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 A fine piece of kit Doug! Would it be possible to have a timber top panel as well as the sides? I think that would look pretty stately. It would be possible. For it to be thin enough to not have a lip, it would not have enough strength, so it would have a small lip. And it probably still wouldn't be strong enough.
Tyll Hertsens Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I'd be happy to have another amp sent to me for review, Doug. +1 If you want me to.
dsavitsk Posted May 22, 2014 Author Report Posted May 22, 2014 First orders should ship on Tuesday. Some pics from the production process ... Wood sides curing on the shop floor. Some front panels just out of the laser engraver (and not yet cleaned) A batch of populated boards just out of the solder oven. A fully populated board undergoing its first tests. 4
n_maher Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Awesome, Doug. I look forward to Tyll's review.
morphsci Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Looking forward to my own review which I may or may not share with you bastards. You sons of bitches are like a bunch of George Can'tstanzyas. Since it is Raffy's birthday, "Eat a dick!"° 1
