tyrion
So the amp arrived today. I got it set up, turned it on and no sound. I then noticed that the 6C33C tubes were not lit up. I shut it down and turned it on again and slowly the tubes came to life. i had it playing for about an hour and the sound slowly faded as the 6C33C tubes shut down. Any idea on the cause. I am waiting to hear back from the seller and I'm guessing I will need to send it to Craig to repair.
dsavitsk
Sounds like something in the heater supply came loose during shipping. Since both sides of the tubes failed together, my best guess would be that it is likely a wire connecting to the regulator. If you know a decent tech, it may be something that can easily be repaired. tyrion
Thanks. I will see if I can locate some one that is local. It would be a pain to ship it out to Craig.
mrarroyo
Mike, Ron (HiFlight) is good in electronics but he lives in Fort Myers. If you would like to contact him send me a PM for his phone number. Cheers and good luck.
tyrion
Miguel, thanks. I am going to see if I can find someone nearby. If that doesn't work, I will definitely contact him.
tyrion
It was the pins for the ps umbilical. I should have known since I've owned a few EC/Moth products. The seller told me to try and pull out the pins and it seems to have worked. Thanks again for the help.
CD44hi
Good to hear that it was something simple.
shellylh
Good to hear it was an easy fix. No fun to get a new toy and not have it work.
mrarroyo
Nice to see it worked out for you Mike. Since you most likely will be selling the amp soon let me know.
tyrion
Miguel, I will. I have Jp's modded Melos Gold to compare this weekend. The ZD is a beauty.

Mike, I still have the MPX3 that was further upgraded after I bought it from you and it was also upgraded/fixed by the good Doctor! If you want to borrow it let me know. Cheers. kevin gilmore
Should you decide you want to keep the ZD, you may consider replacing those crappy plastic power connectors with the amphenol military things. There is a size that fits the chassis holes directly. About $200 in parts plus the labor to rewire everything.
RudeWolf
Any idea what's with all the Zanas coming up for sale at the other forum? Funding for the Super 7, I guess...
tyrion
I was wondering the same thing. The ZD is one hell of an amp for what I paid. Now I just need some LCD-2's to compare to the HE-500's that I am really enjoying at the moment. Miguel, I forgot about that amp. I always liked the MPX3. I may take you up on the offer. KG, you assume I have the skills to make that happen. Wait, you know I don't have the skills to make that happen. I will keep it in mind should this problem happen again. I can't believe I am listening to headphones again and enjoying it.
jvlgato
Mike, you can borrow my LCD2s in a few weeks, after my gathering in December. They sounded great on absorbine Mike's ZD!
tyrion
That would be very cool. I think a weekend with them would be all I would need.
mrarroyo
Just call me of PM me Mike. I have some older russian 6H8C tubes in addition to a bunch of 6SN7's you could borrow to roll!
bhjazz
I was wondering the same thing. The ZD is one hell of an amp for what I paid. Currently there is this on the 'gon. $1650 with some operational problems that I'm sure would be easy to fix. I need to finish a few DIY projects first, but god damn this looks like a good deal. Does that seem like a good price? Gah! Why am I asking? MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!
tyrion
That one is on HF as well. $1650 is too much for that amp at the prices I've seen lately. I paid less for the newer version, non-SE. Here is a better deal: http://www.head-fi.org/t/580343/zana-deux-canada-conus

livewire
At that price, I'd expect it to be without faults. Who knows? Maybe things run deeper... One just sold on HF for ~$1300. There is another one over there going for the same price.

There is a size that fits the chassis holes directly. About $200 in parts plus the labor to rewire everything. I would have expected that an amp like the Zana would already be using the good amphenol mil-spec (did I really say that?) connectors at that price point. Didn't Mike (absorbine) have that same problem with his at a Chicago meet a few years ago?
bhjazz
That's what I thought: older model with some odd problems...priced too high... Thank you!
