KenW Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 I've recently harvested a 40GB HD from an old Ultimate TV device and would like to use it with my pc. Problem is that it's locked. I'd seen some threads about using mhd3.exe to unlock and erase it which would then allow me to reformat and reuse it. Unfortunately, I'm having no success unlocking it. Does anyone here have an idea? Not trying to hack the drive so preserving the data isn't an issue. I'm really looking to just wipe it clean and start fresh. Suggestions appreciated. Quote

KenW Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 I've had good luck using this: http://dban.sourceforge.net/ No dice. It's not able to overcome the lock or the drive is bad. Right now, it looks like I'm toast with this drive. Quote
KenW Posted December 23, 2006 Author Report Posted December 23, 2006 I've got one more possibility. I've found that I can reflash with the TIVO software which will leave the drive unlocked. If that doesn't succeed, I guess that's it. Quote
