The Monkey Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 So, should I get an LCD-2? I don't know why but I kind of want one.
recstar24 Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 So, should I get an LCD-2? I don't know why but I kind of want one. Listen to one first. It's a nice sounding headphone. I had johns rev 1 for awhile and it was very nice, at times a bit lush but still detailed. Imagine a faster more detailed and overall tighter hd650. Rev 2's are popping up cheap used too.
The Monkey Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I've heard it a couple of times now and like it. Of course, I don't actually need it. But that's a silly distinction.
tyrion Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I'm hoping to compare the LCD-2 and HE-500 in December thanks to John. I really like the HE-500 so far.
teufelshunde Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) Audeze FR plot for the LCD-3 I purchased - for comparison purposes w what others have received. There are no data like empirical data. Edited November 19, 2011 by teufelshunde
Torpedo Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) Dinny, I didn't need it either, but succumbed to temptation as you may remember They're nice, but having Stax stuff, kind of redundant on the long haul. I'd go for the LCD-3 Edited November 19, 2011 by Torpedo
spritzer Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I just got a crazy idea, how about cramming some Stax drivers in the LCD-2 housing... Has anybody disassembled one of these with full internal pics?
mrarroyo Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I'm hoping to compare the LCD-2 and HE-500 in December thanks to John. I really like the HE-500 so far. Now that the HE500 is retailing for $699 it is a moar better deal!
morphsci Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Audeze FR plot for the LCD-3 I purchased - for comparison purposes w what others have received. There are no data like empirical data. It still bothers me that Audeze does not show both drivers on the graph. Just seems slightly slimy.
emelius Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) just not keen on paying two grand to go LCD-3...think I'll try custom iems for a bit...see how much the LCD-4 are... Edited November 20, 2011 by emelius
Audiojunkie Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 It still bothers me that Audeze does not show both drivers on the graph. Just seems slightly slimy. Most headphone companies don't show any FR data whatsoever....at least Audeze goes this far. But I agree that both channels would be preferable. Purrin's data on his LCD-3s looked really good FWIW.
recstar24 Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Completely OT but looking at purrins plots the hd800 sure looks pretty freaking good.
guzziguy Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 That's because they are freakin' good!
recstar24 Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Would love to have another listen. Last time I remember them having a brighter tonal balance but I though they were speedy and imaged well.
purrin Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Just in case you guys haven't caught wind of it yet, I posted a toilet paper mod for the LCD3 on HF for shits and giggles: http://www.head-fi.o...on#post_7904568 Edited November 20, 2011 by purrin

RudeWolf Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 That white toilet paper doesn't go too well with the brown zebra wood. But I think that there's a mod for that.
rhythmdevils Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Welcome to the Team 'Paper Dampers'. Its a rather exclusive club, hope you have earned your badge. It is very exclusive. And dangerous. Lot of whackkos.
livewire Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 That white toilet paper doesn't go too well with the brown zebra wood. But I think that there's a mod for that. There is. In his thread he explains it is sandwhiched in between the existing cloth pieces. It is not visable from the outside. As mentioned before, this would be a great mod for for those who listen to the LCD3 with Schiit products. Hmmm, I wonder if used toilet paper would sound better?
FrankCooter Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 Don't know anything about the LCD-3, but if you're at all interested, there's been some good deals to be had on used LCD-2's. I bought a 3 week old pair for substantially under the original price. I wasn't a big fan of the originals, but I'm liking the r2 a lot.
TMoney Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Tried making a few posts in the LCD3 thread over on the "dark side." What a mistake. I'm sorry I bothered. Anti-intellectualism reigns supreme over there. It reminds me of the the "Tea Party" mentality. Complex things are scary to the simple minded.
digger945 Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 That white toilet paper doesn't go too well with the brown zebra wood. But I think that there's a mod for that. If you take a piece of newspaper or magazine paper and wad it up and roll it back and forth between your hands for a few minutes, it gets very soft like toilet paper. I dunno if that would be useful for a headphone mod, but it could be useful if you really needed some toilet paper. 1
