Looks like I may need to get some slip on shoes for post hip surgery (no tying shoes for a long time). Any favorites? I have a pair of Birkenstocks but since it will be winter, I thought sandals might be a little chilly. Guess I can always get more smart wool socks.

Frequent flyers out there have probably heard of Hipmunk. I use it and love it. Now Hipmunk will integrate your Google Calendar entries to help you avoid conflicts. Definitely a new favorite thing for me.

I recommend these. I have a pair and think they are money well spent.

They also make slides, if that is more your thing (it might be easier to slip on). I have tried the slides and they seem to be better than other slides out there:

As an expert on all things having to do with crutches, I strongly advise against shoes with no back at all, as they will slip a bit as you shuffle around, making walking harder, if not more dangerous. I'd go with a slip on, but with a back or at least a strap. You can use one foot to get a shoe off the other foot, and if you need help putting them on, that's what your husband/friends/co-workers/student minions are for.

Thanks for the advice, crutches expert Vicki. :) I got a pair of Vans slip on tennis shoes. Maybe I'll buy a pair of Milano Birkenstocks as well since they have a strap and my pair is pretty old. I am a little worried about taking off shoes and putting them on. It even hurts my hip a little right now to slip of my left shoe with my right foot. :(

You do realize that you're trying to educate a former lesbian about Birkenstocks right?

That's rather similar to trying to tell Justin or Tyll about what happens in strip clubs. :D

Has anyone here made the switch from soft to hard contact lenses, if so your thoughts?

Never even considered it; I love my soft contacts way too much to even think about using anything else.

It's vietnamese style iced coffee...I'm using various coffees from oldbisbeeroasters.com, vietnamese style (prepared as identified above)

When I make hot coffee, I either use a good drip machine (from zojirushi), an aeropress, a french press, or a moka pot
