blessingx Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 (edited) I came late to the Columbo show and the Cassavetes films, but few actors out there with such a low profile yet connected high stature over the years. And that little flick, Wings of Desire, where Peter Falk played an actor/ex-angel named Peter Falk... EDIT: First obits - Peter Falk, TV's rumpled Columbo, has died, Peter Falk: Beloved by comedians and cartoonists. And everybody else., Remembering Peter Falk, 1927 - 2011 Edited June 24, 2011 by blessingx Quote
GPH Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 RIP to a great actor. One more thing, sir... Quote
jvlgato Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Sad, I'll miss him. I grew up watching Columbo. He was really funny in The In-Laws, and I liked his cameo in The Princess Bride. RIP! Quote
tyrion Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 The In Laws is a favorite of mine. RIP. Quote
skullguise Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 RIP indeed....I was just barely old enough to like Columbo....and enjoyed the above-mentioned films..... Quote
blessingx Posted June 24, 2011 Author Report Posted June 24, 2011 (edited) Fun moment from Columbo. Edited June 24, 2011 by blessingx Quote
Duggeh Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 (edited) My absolute favourite film as a kid and still one of my dearest is The Great Race. For me, Falk will always be Max, the henchman to Jack Lemmons Professor Fate. RIP. Edited June 24, 2011 by Duggeh Quote
blessingx Posted June 24, 2011 Author Report Posted June 24, 2011 (edited) Duggeh, is there anyone with Lemmon (Matthau, Curtis, MacLaine, etc.) that's not a great team? Damn, he made anyone great, greater. Like Falk, he seems to be the 'generous actor.' Here's a nice New Yorker obit for Falk focusing on his film career. Edited June 24, 2011 by blessingx Quote
Duggeh Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 I've yet to see a duff Jack Lemmon film. The Odd Couple is another of my absolute favourites (although I have to give preference to Matthau in that). Also Glengarry Glen Ross, where Lemmon bested Al Pachino, Ed Harris et al. However I don't wish to derail from Falk. I will remember him with fondness. Quote
blessingx Posted June 24, 2011 Author Report Posted June 24, 2011 Me neither, but if you haven't seen the little seen Avanti! try to find. Quote
guzziguy Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Peter Falk was one of the great all-time character actors. Godspeed Colombo. Quote
Wmcmanus Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 One of my favorites as well. Something about him always made me smile. He had a way of making you feel that you were "in on it" with him. Not just in Columbo, but in everything he did. Loved the way he played the calm, gentle, old man reading to his grandson in Princess Bride, stumbling for his glasses, etc. So ordinary and imperfect, yet so extraordinary and perfect. Quote
jp11801 Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 (edited) The NY Times obit story was really well done, I loved Columbo and the "just one more thing" moments Edited June 25, 2011 by jp11801 Quote
Voltron Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Just recently watched Anzio and had forgotten his role in that one. Like Mike, The In Laws is a fave in addition to Columbo. Serpentine, Peter, serpentine. Quote
