justin Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 What about the SR-325........e. http://www.gradolabs.com/headphones discuss.
Sherwood Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 What does a retailer with "i" stock do? Sow seeds of doubt on the forums?
roadtonowhere08 Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 Of course... until the "e" stock comes in. What I would like is a fix the Y connection, add better "yank" protection at the cup, make the headband block metal, and, oh yeah, BRING BACK THE PS-1 for $1.5K, and all would be well with the world.
screaming oranges Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 Hmmm, can it be that "e" versions are all by default mini-plug now to better suit the iPod mainstream crowd and then a push-on 1/4" adapter is thrown in for the audiophile crowd? The pic below is from the Grado website (specifically, the timeline). This would essentially phase out their mini-to-1/4" adapter, no? (see 2nd pic) And it is certainly cheaper to produce, thereby reducing costs when you compare the two! VS
Sherwood Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 I am intrigued by the larger drivers enough to grab a pair. I deeply hate the 1/8" connectors, though. If you're going to wear WWII-era headspeakers out in public, you should complete the look with a needlessly complicated dual cable and adapter. Likewise, if you're listening at home and have an amp with a mini plug, you should be made to suffer. Also, we all know that bringing back the PS-1 would never work. Even if it sounded the same, it would not sound the same. 1
recstar24 Posted June 15, 2014 Author Report Posted June 15, 2014 I'm quite curious. I've read some things about the PS-1, but most of it just about how rare they are. Where do they stand sound-wise compared to other Grados? To me they are the best John Grado. The bass is insane and that is with bowls. Very clear and not as harsh as some of the thee Grados, doesn't sound as peaky
jpelg Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 driver size has increased from 40 to 50 mm Looks like new 44mm and 50mm drivers, depending on the model.
grawk Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 his supply of the old ones probably ran out, and this was what he could get now
jpelg Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 Wonder what that means for servicing older units?
grawk Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 since it's all speculation anyway I'll speculate he hit the inventory level required to service old headphones?
tin ear Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 Looks like new 44mm and 50mm drivers, depending on the model. yeah that's right. the ps500 and rs2 have 44 mm drivers. the rs1, gs1000 and ps1000 have 50 mm drivers. not sure about the prestige series tho.
screaming oranges Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 Nonetheless it looks like the miniplug by default design holds to be true. Just checked out a thread on head-fi where someone posted pics of their PS500e and it confirms this (also smaller packaging): http://www.head-fi.org/t/722571/grado-e-series/45#post_10633871 I hope the driver change is for the positive! The size could have changed but what of the material? Too early to tell. Either way, I just got done with selling off my Grado museum a couple months back, and I'm not planning to restock again.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 I just got done with selling off my Grado museum a couple months back, and I'm not planning to restock again. You what?
Sherwood Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 You better have enough HP-1000 left for me to eventually buy one.
screaming oranges Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 You what? I sold all my Grado cans except for the Joe Grados and one pink driver RS1. All other Grados I had are gone ( I had one of every model, and some woodied. I even had the Alessandro models). All that is gone.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 No, I remember that, I just didn't realize it was that...comprehensive...
Hopstretch Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 I sold all my Grado cans except for the Joe Grados and one pink driver RS1. Tyll Hertsens Posted June 15, 2014 Report Posted June 15, 2014 ^^^On a Grado? He's just managed to move into the 1980's with the mini-plug. Don't rush him, man. 1
Leonardo Drummond Posted June 16, 2014 Report Posted June 16, 2014 To me they are the best John Grado. The bass is insane and that is with bowls. Very clear and not as harsh as some of the thee Grados, doesn't sound as peaky Thanks
