Voltron Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 What'd you guys think of the Sanders? I thought they were pretty impressive in clarity and air and sound staging. I have never heard timpani heads reverberating after being slammed the way the Sanders portrayed it. It seems that they benefit from being a whole system with matched amps. The problem was that the roller coaster described both the seating and thf music because Sanders played no more than 30-60 seconds of each track. We went from classical crescendo to Johnnie Cash to the middle of a Stevie Ray Vaughn song. It was weird.
morphsci Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Well damn. I was considering selling my HE-60s as I rarely listen to them. But I guess I will keep them since they sound like the SR-009 and save a few Ks.
jp11801 Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 btw Props to TTVJ for making the glasses for the beer night Todd is a class act and yet another reason to send your money with him. His beer stock was magnificent, I only wish I had brought my 25 year old liver rather than my 47 year old liver with me to RMAF
n3rdling Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Thanks Al! I really need to hear a set someday.
Voltron Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Did Tom Hankins make it to the meet? I never saw him to my knowledge.
faust3d Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I wish I had time to go to this, so much cool stuff to hear and look at and cool people to talk to and drink beer with. Thanks for the pics!
VPI Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) Does anyone remember the Amarra discount code that I saw 1000 times at the show and have now forgotten? I want to try Vinyl and it seems like the discount made for a decent price. Edited October 20, 2011 by VPI
tom_hankins Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 So what were the best sounding speaker setups? These were the ones that kept me in my chair. GTT room with the big YGAs and the Tenor electronics Fi/Voxativ single driver room Empirical room with there modded jc-1 amps and the YGA Kipod II signature speakers Allnic/wilson Sasha room ARC/Vandersteen 7 room Jeff Rowland/Thiel 3.7 room Also liked the YGA Carmel/Vitus room Aesthetix/Vandersteen 7 room
tom_hankins Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Did Tom Hankins make it to the meet? I never saw him to my knowledge. I was there and hung out with Todd on sat. for awhile, and then back sunday. Listened to the 009 systems and spent some time with the HD800/woo monoblocks.
Iron_Dreamer Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 I was there and hung out with Todd on sat. for awhile, and then back sunday. Listened to the 009 systems and spent some time with the HD800/woo monoblocks. Sorry we missed you!
luvdunhill Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Wasn't the Lowther Field Coil there?
Voltron Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Sorry to have missed you, Tom. We liked a lot of the same rooms at the show. The only Lowthers I saw sounded horrible, but I doubt they were field coils.
mikeymad Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Sorry I missed the show... I hope I can make it next year (if it does not conflict with my whisky weekend)...
The Monkey Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 I wish Craig had brought the stat amp. Is it called the Electra? Do we know anything more about it?
Voltron Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 I don't know shit about that, but I do know that I feel compelled to play the old school hip hop channels ever since leaving RMAF, yo.
n3rdling Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Electra, something like $2200 I think, tubes, don't know much else off the top of my head.
aardvark baguette Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Did anyone happen to hear the Volti Audio speakers? They look very interesting.
spritzer Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Electra, something like $2200 I think, tubes, don't know much else off the top of my head. I think it is at least double that but there have been so many versions that I may have lost count. From what I gather it will be more like the WES then the ESX (using the same tubes as these amps) which is not a good thing in my book.
The Monkey Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 I don't know shit about that, but I do know that I feel compelled to play the old school hip hop channels ever since leaving RMAF, yo. Word. That was a mad delightful surprise. Electra, something like $2200 I think, tubes, don't know much else off the top of my head. I saw that figure somewhere over on HF, too. I think it is at least double that but there have been so many versions that I may have lost count. From what I gather it will be more like the WES then the ESX (using the same tubes as these amps) which is not a good thing in my book. I haven't heard the WES for a while, but I remember liking it when I did hear it. If it is indeed $2200, it would be nice to have a commercially available stat amp in that price range that is capable of driving the 007.
CherryBomb Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 (edited) My wife and I got caught up in a Occupy Denver protest when we were at CanJam. If anyone is interested, here is a post about it from her blog: http://www.avianexpl...r-art-museum-2/ Edited October 22, 2011 by CherryBomb
ironbut Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 I spent about 1/2 an hour in the Volti room. From what I could tell, they were very nice. No honk to speak of, but maybe a touch rolled off on top. Nothing serious and the sort of thing that you wouldn't notice after living with them I think. I was listening to acoustic blues so I couldn't tell you about the bass.
aardvark baguette Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 ^ Thanks. I'm long overdue for a speaker upgrade. These are very enticing to me.
Tyll Hertsens Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 Damit!!! I saw a picture somewhere of Jerry Harvey's drawing of his JH-3A circuit on a napkin. Does anyone know where that is or who took it?
cobra_kai Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) I believe it was in warp08's thread on HF. Give me a minute and I should be able to find the link... Here's the link: http://www.head-fi.org/t/576238/jh-audio-jh-3a-3-way-dsp-amplifier-crossover-design-changes#post_7828889 Edited October 23, 2011 by cobra_kai
