Dusty Chalk Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 First the pic, which immediately got my attention: It's a portable player AND a DAC. Discuss. (I saw it in the current [May 2011] issue of Hi-Fi Choice.)
recstar24 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Freaking uses an alps pot with a crossfader type knob/switch. It also kills all the jitter.
manaox2 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Here is a lot more info on it from the manufacturer: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/552767/colorfly-pocket-hifi-c4-32gb-is-available-in-north-america http://aloaudio.com/colorfly-c4-hi-fi-player-32-gig-with-mico-sd-slot.html It was released last September. Sparing others the huddler blather, owners of it don't seem that impressed sadly, and at $800 that is a damn shame.
dsavitsk Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Interesting. It looks like the precision of 0805 resistance is up to 1% in the simulation.
bhjazz Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Wildly retro looking. It has the design elements of 1960's audio and Mattel's handheld Football ca. 1976. Still, the glory in the guts is pretty surprising. "Different pushrod operating experience." I love translations. So who's gonna be first? I like the idea of something that small for work/commute. I really don't have a lot of space here...
bhjazz Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Oh. I see no line outs available. And I'm wondering how that slider would do if the unit were rolling around in a coat pocket.
MoonShine Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Unboxing video: Pair that with a nice pair of metal Grados and you will achieve Steampunk Nirvana.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Oh. I see no line outs available. And I'm wondering how that slider would do if the unit were rolling around in a coat pocket. Yeah, even though it's an alps, I'm curious how they pull that off: I know of no lint-free pockets. But with regard to the first -- the Hi-Fi Choice article actually addressed this: although it's still a headphone jack, the 1/4" one outputs 2V, so all you need is an adapter.
bhjazz Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 (edited) Nice pic from another forum. Nice to see the display gets away from album art for a change. I wonder if their dB readings calculate for high or low impedance 'phones...(just sayin) Edited May 12, 2011 by bhjazz
