swt61 Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 I remember those. Never heard one, but in theory it should be faster for sure.
robm321 Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 Adding a sub and maintaining these goals is difficult. Agreed.
luvdunhill Posted November 6, 2012 Author Report Posted November 6, 2012 What strikes me about these horns is the soundstaging. It is quite nice and would be bettered only by a nice room and treatments in terms of upgrades I think, the electronics are very complementary. The subs and bass amp are done. Next step is the active crossover. Random phone shot:
recstar24 Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 My god...at first I thought those horns were part of the room. Nope just large ass f'in corner horns that's all.
luvdunhill Posted November 6, 2012 Author Report Posted November 6, 2012 (edited) Yup. For reference those heatsinks are 12"x12" I will bring the subs in and snap a shot tomorrow Also notice the bullets not the showerheads in the Lowthers. I think they are an improvement. Dusty Chalk Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Yup. For reference those heatsinks are 12"x12" Team overkill FTMFW!!!1!
recstar24 Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Yeah Jon at Lowther America is pretty adamant that the older bullet style plugs have better dispersion than the newer "shower head" ones - he said the new ones actually whistle at certain frequencies. When I got my dx65's he didn't even bother asking me for a choice and just put the bullet style on them.
naamanf Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Looks great! How do they sound? When are you moving?
crappyjones123 Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Fantastic Marc! What are the black boxes in the back/side of the horns? I thought horns like that needed to be exactly in a corner with no gaps.
swt61 Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Fantastic Marc! What are the black boxes in the back/side of the horns? I thought horns like that needed to be exactly in a corner with no gaps. Those are custom subwoofers, and they are badass! These particular corner horns do not need to be placed fully into the corner, because they are not open on the sides like the old Klipsh corner horns. These are closed around all sides, and it's the folded interior that creates the horn loading. Very complex on the inside. I know because I helped Marc cut the 3000 pieces. I should also mention that as good as they look now, the front face and edges will be covered with 1/4" of solid Wenge. Hopefully we'll get to that sooner than later. Just beautiful Marc!
luvdunhill Posted November 19, 2012 Author Report Posted November 19, 2012 A bit of victory. My bass amp and balanced crossover are working! Yes those subs can put out quite nicely. I probably will cut a custom shelf and hang the crossover from the bottom. This means its time to work on my own crossover, which will be next.
