acidbasement Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Still way better than my permanent home in rural Manitoba.
The Monkey Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Just did mine at work. 4.19 Mb/s Down 4.00 Mb/s Up And that's when things are speedy.
jinp6301 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 sad sad ("off" campus) university wireless internet If i plug in ethernet, probably goes up to 50mbps
revolink24 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Home: School is something like 200 down/40 up, so that's not even fair.
Pars Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Work here is 38 down, 22 up. Monkey must have FIOS FTMFW Birgir's is pretty impressive... must not be that much to do in Iceland Edited March 1, 2011 by Pars
The Monkey Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Home is FIOS. At work, I believe our internet connection is supplied by a lazy dwarf turning a wheel in the basement...or something.
Torpedo Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 This is what 3rd World is about. I'm paying about 57 euros/month for this crap, and what's worse, no company can give me higher speeds. Cable company doesn't cover my street. And I live pretty downtown the capital, not the suburbs
spritzer Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Birgir's is pretty impressive... must not be that much to do in Iceland Internet porn and booze, what else is there to live for? The real reason is that we are tech mad to a fault. The town I live in even footed the bill to connect every home with fiber, slicing open every street in town.
Voltron Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Internet porn and booze, what else is there to live for? Even better when you combine them into one:
Knuckledragger Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 GPH, I'm amazed you do play as many Steam games as you do with Canadian internet. Spritzer's numbers make me want to
deepak Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 over wireless. I sneezed in the middle of the test so it's probably slightly higher
cetoole Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 About typical for this time of day. A few hours ago, it was probably more like 8 down, and the highest I have seen is just over 30 down. Upload is pretty much always within a few kbps of this.
jinp6301 Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 adhoc wifi network through my friends laptop connected by ethernet
NightWoundsTime Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 That 22kpbs rate is because of comcast's speed boost feature. my normal download is about 15. I think that the boost is for the first 20 mb of each download. just don't get me started on the 250gb per month download limit. I've hit 240 twice without realizing how close I'd gotten till I paid the bill. Damn you BBC hd documentaries.

I've hit 240 twice without realizing how close I'd gotten till I paid the bill. Damn you BBC hd documentaries. I agree. I've gotten pretty close to the 250GB a few times... I read the acceptable usage policy and apparently if they warn you once and you go over again within a 12 month period, they cancel your service and you're banned for a year. But at least comcast at home is faster than the internet at work...
Grahame Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 This is what I'm showing at at the moment at home. Yes indeed, Comcast does have a 250GB cap. But the trick with limits is not to exceed them Funny story regarding Comcast and their cap. I mentioned the cap to a co-worker, and comcasts data useage tool. He was unaware of this, as he never checked his comcast user page / email. It turned out he was a big fan of sabnzb / sick beard / xbmc etc. So when he was contacted by comcast complaining of over 1TB / month usage ... He was told that if he breached > 250GB a month again within the next year there could be suspension of service ... so we checked his usage on the 6th of the month and it was already up to 500GB ... Ooops! It all ended well, as he has (/ was forced to ) upgraded to their uncapped business internet ( for more money + being forced to rent their modem) Luckily he has a "Business website", and said that all that traffic most be due to the "network testing" and Linux ISO's he transfers / downloads. Like him I prefer my Linux ISO's in 720p
naamanf Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Home. So much better than dail-up-Iraq Edited March 13, 2011 by naamanf
Craig Sawyers Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) No, no, no, I do! Still marginally better than dial-up. You want third world, you got it! Here it is... Well, here we are in not-quite-in-the-21st-century England. This is 6 miles from Oxford, so hardly hicksville. The excuse is that we are more than 4km from the BT exchange. Edited March 13, 2011 by Craig Sawyers
n_maher Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Funny that my upload speed is so much worse that Young's.
Salt Peanuts Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Holy jebus, Nate. I never got that kind of download speed when I had Comcrap.
