manaox2
Dust maybe.
spritzer
Probably dust but could be a bias supply issue. Unplug the headphones while this is going on and if it is still present after unplugging then it is a dust issue.
edstrelow
Hair getting into the drivers is also a problem and is probably easier to see than dust.
Fitz
it's broken. A wizard did it.

forbigger
if its a dust/hair, how do i clean it ? must dis-assemble the driver ? thanks for all the replies anyway......
luvdunhill
I've heard of people using a vaccuum... Or perhaps a leaf blower.
guzziguy
OK guys, be nice. Budi, don't get close to you O2s with a vacuum or any other powered device. If you check out the Stax thread, I think that you'll find the answer. Otherwise, prostrate yourself before Birgir and beg for help.
luvdunhill
I didn't say anything untrue, I have heard of that before!
guzziguy
The only person I know who has tried a vacuum is Birgir's favorite Israeli.
spritzer
I would have loved to see that dust cover disappear into the vacuum... The only way to remove the dust is to open up the driver and hope you can clear it out without adding some more dust. If the phones still have warranty left then Stax will exchange the drivers since this shouldn't happen at all. The drivers are assembled in a clean room just to make sure of that. forbigger
thanks birgir.....guess i would leave it as it is. its not annoying enough for me to take such a drastic measure. i bought the headphone used from one of the HC/HF "celebrity", in absolutely mint condition......and warranty is already over i guess and thanks to ken too for cutting me some slack again Edited January 19, 2011 by forbigger
manaox2
The only person I know who has tried a vacuum is Birgir's favorite Israeli. Might have been the only person, but the O2 were maybe not the only Stax phones cleaned. I had the displeasure of dealing with him with an LNS sold to me that I suspect that was treated similarly. chinsettawong
When a bias wire is about to come loose, you sometime can hear that tiny, random static sound too. You could open the headphones up and check; then maybe resolder the wire. Wachara C.
forbigger
^^^ you the guy from thailand who make his own stats driver @HF ? If so, welcome to HC. You're like the asian version of spritzer IMO
chinsettawong
Hi Forbigger, It's nice to see somebody who knows me. Thanks! I can't say that I'm as knowledgeable as Spritzer, but I do learn a lot about electrostatic headphones the hard way. Wachara C.
