shellylh Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 ...but you kept? What? I was never very good at biology. White blood cells? Plaque? This is my interpretation (but I am no expert). They take one whole unit of red blood cells and two to three units of plasma (two to three times what they would get when they took whole blood) and they give you back your platelets along with some saline solution (my least favorite part... cold in your veins isn't fun). Since I have O- blood, it would be best if I could give double red blood cells but I am not tall enough (but I could maybe do this if I went to one of the blood centers instead of a drive).
Absorbine_Sr Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Congrat Shelly!! Jacob, I love how your OCD cooking obsession ends up in really cool and good things. I'm envious. You will cook for me.
Absorbine_Sr Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Anytime, just make it to Cincy. I foresee a winter/spring 2013 visit. I wish it could be sooner. I miss you man.
Dreadhead Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Congrats Shelly! Me: I spent the last week at an academic conference.
VPI Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Spent the day so far unsuccessfully searching for a home in Alexandria, VA. Really like the area and commute but haven't found anything I want yet.

VPI Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Old Town so far but I am heading farther out now by the Van Dorn stop Cameron Station, I think, to look at Townhomes.
Dreadhead Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Old Town so far but I am heading farther out now by the Van Dorn stop Cameron Station, I think, to look at Townhomes. Rowhouses in the local parlance Cameron station is pretty nice but not very central and Duke St can be a bitch of a commute during rush hour. Edited September 5, 2012 by Dreadhead

I was actually just intending to take the blue Line right to my office and avoid driving altogether.
Dreadhead Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) I was actually just intending to take the blue Line right to my office and avoid driving altogether. Well that would work well. They have a commuter bus to the Van Dorn I believe. My wife takes Metro but I drive (because of location etc it saves about 30min each way for me). The Monkey Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Old Town so far but I am heading farther out now by the Van Dorn stop Cameron Station, I think, to look at Townhomes. Get something BIG. I will need plenty of room when I come to visit.
Absorbine_Sr Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 it's definitely been too long. do you think you'd like pop-tarts or instant oatmeal better, for potential dinner? Frosted pop-tarts? I know you only serve the best.
Grahame Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Sipped an overpriced latte at SFO while waiting for Richard Branson's finest to ferry Jo and I back to the UK.

Voltron Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Safe travels, and have a great trip. I hope Claire sent that email but she will shortly if she hasn't yet. Cheerio!
Grahame Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Safe travels, and have a great trip. I hope Claire sent that email but she will shortly if she hasn't yet. Cheerio! Claire's email arrived safe and well, albeit a bacon free Top 10. Will endeavour to rectify this omission somehow
Voltron Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 I think you'll have better luck with that in the Ol' Blighty than in Gay Paris.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 I was actually just intending to take the blue Line right to my office and avoid driving altogether.Which stop? I ask because then you can go Vienna/McLean/Falls Church if you went orange line.
jvlgato Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 plain pop-tarts of frosted generic. best i can do. Knowing you, you'll roll your own pastry dough with 15 year old starter, crush fresh local fruit with the best cane sugar, find the best pop tart bakery pan, bake it to the flakiest perfection, then frost it with homemade frosting made with fresh country shortening and hand churned butter.
Dreadhead Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Probably Courthouse/Clarendon is another option as well
Voltron Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 Mmmm, lard tarts. Here is a pretty amazing looking bacon & onion pop tart recipe, complete with lard: http://www.blackberr...in-pastry-flour
cetoole Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 Traced the buzzing in one of my speakers to the surround on the woofer being about 1/4 detached. Yay, no more buzzing.
