tyrion Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 College will cost me far less. Grad school we will see. Defense funds, hopefully not. I'm close to $300,000 poorer but I believe my kids lives are richer a result. Quote
grawk Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 I dunno, the boarding school I went to had TERRIBLE food. Quote
shellylh Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Just made my last private school payment! Congrat Mike! Quote

Dreadhead Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) Recieved our tax refund Edited March 4, 2011 by Dreadhead Quote
Dreadhead Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I would do it soon. When (if?) the federal government shuts down I doubt any refunds will be going anywhere. I'm just glad to get it before that, if they had not passed that bill on Wed it would be a ghost town around here today. Quote
grawk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I try and file as soon as I can each year. I treat Feb 5 as a hard deadline for my federal return... Quote
jvlgato Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I don't think I've even received all my necessary statements by Feb 5. Quote
crappyjones123 Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 im with dan on this one. i filed in late january i think. received the direct deposit on feb 11th. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I would if I wasn't such a procrostinator. ...and disorganized... Quote
grawk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 me too, that's why I do it. I don't want any chance I miss the deadline Quote

Dusty Chalk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Kevin did his typical Tim the Tool-man Taylor impression and decided he wanted to make one that was moar powaful. Quote
grawk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I am currently on hold with Bank of America to dispute a $1500 charge to my visa to HP Home Store, as if I'd ever buy anything from HP. Quote
crappyjones123 Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) from my experiences with bank of america with 4 disputes including one amounting to $890 in identity theft charges (money spent on a adult entertainment site) they took care of it immediately. i had to fill out a piece of paper saying i didnt make those purchases and they refunded the money immediately. 3 disputes were for cheap stuff ($50 calling card, $75 ebay purchase, $300 ipod from apple) comparatively. no problems happened there. with the $890 issue, a credit collection agency came after me and i got the police involved eventually and a call from the police officer helping me got the credit collection agency off my back immediately. wachovia held me responsible for a $22 charge i did not make. refused to cover it even though i didnt make. should be obvious which institution i bank with now. grawk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 yah, it's already taken care of, I just have to sign a form and get my new card whenever it gets here. Kind of a pain, but it's not my only card, so not a huge deal. Quote
shellylh Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 That is a PITA Dan. My taxes aren't too bad but I always owe some small amount so I procrastinate. The biggest pain for me is when I am on a panel at a certain government agency in Arlington... for some reason unknown to me, they always reimburse expenses as income... and then you gotta do paperwork if you don't want to pay taxes on it. At least I don't have to fill out state income tax forms. Quote
The Monkey Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 About a block away from the office on the way home saw a woman trip and fall and smash her face on the sidewalk. Blood everywhere. She was 60 and with her husband and I called an ambulance right away. Fortunately, she was conscious and alert. The woman's daughter showed up after about 10 minutes and they decided to get up and head home. Ambulance arrived about 3 minutes later. I told the EMTs what happened and they took off. The sound of her head hitting the sidewalk is not easy to forget. Quote
Voltron Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Eagle Rare, STAT! That's yucky, Dinny. Good of you to care and help. Quote
The Monkey Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Thanks, Al, and excellent advice. I figured I'd want someone to do it for my mom. I even advised the husband to take a picture of the thing she tripped on (a crowd control gate). But I get it. She's hurt, scared, embarrassed (shouldn't be), and just wants to get out of there. Hope she's ok, but her family seemed smart. Quote
Voltron Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 That's not advice, that's a prescription. I am a Juris Doctor, you know. Quote
