morphsci Posted May 10, 2012 Author Report Posted May 10, 2012 Installed the new Crank Bros. Candy pedals and tried them out with the Keens. These are a nice combo. I like. 1
Pars Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Came home from work a bit early, but had to run an errand. When I got that done, I rode 16.46 miles in 1:09, so 14.3mph. Better, still sucks. Light wind, 8E, felt good. Was going to do another 5-6 miles, but got a phone call and had to come home
The Monkey Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Went to the annual benefit for the non-profit my mother helped get off the ground in NYC. It's a children's literacy program and has really taken off over the last 10-15 years. I'm very proud of her and it reminds me that I need to get involved with some community service again. http://www.reachoutandreadnyc.org for anyone interested.
Wmcmanus Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 That's wonderful stuff, Dinny! Being proud of your mom is pretty cool as well. Speaking of which... my mom has similar interests and talents. She has taught adult education (GED program) at a community college for 30+ years, and has worked in a separate program to assist teenage mothers with their education and general life skills. She's passionate about her work, and has made a real difference for a lot of these girls. But sometimes I think they like her too much! Just the other day, she got her first 3rd generation teenage mom. The 33 year-old grandmother brought her daughter in (along with the baby) and asked, "Do you remember me?" My mom said, "Why yes, Jessica... and I remember your mom as well..." Apparently, Jessica was a 6 year-old when they first met. Mom told me, "Thank God this baby was a boy!"
Voltron Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Sounds like a great ride to me, Chris. Sorry you had to cut it short. That's very cool about both your moms, Dinny and Wayne. I feel like a slacker given what my parents did over the years for their various communities--as teachers, teacher mentors, political activists, church volunteers, etc., etc.--but then I remember that a lot of what they did was later in life when time became more available. It makes me feel better to think that, anyway.
Dreadhead Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Last night we went out to the see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in at the Verizon center. It's only our second night out since Ben was born 7 months ago. It was good to get out. Concert was good too.
grawk Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 started the process to buy another new car. This one a jetta sportwagen tdi. If I'm going to be commuting, I need a car that can handle that. 42mpg ftw.
skullguise Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 We tried the Jetta as well, drives nicely but felt a bit cheap inside. Wife ended up with a Passat wagon instead. But if the MPG is paramount, it's still a nice car at a better price
grawk Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I'm potentially going to be driving 35000 or more miles a year.
The Monkey Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 Thought I had finished a memo I'd been working on all week. Then realized I had more to do and won't finish until Monday. Pisser.
HeadphoneAddict Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 started the process to buy another new car. This one a jetta sportwagen tdi. If I'm going to be commuting, I need a car that can handle that. 42mpg ftw. USA Today has an article about an old couple that drove 1,600 miles from Houston to North Virginia on ONE TANK of gas in their diesel VW, squeaking out 80+mpg and pissing off a few drivers for going below the speed limit.
Voltron Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 At The Wall with Mikey and Bigguy somewhere in the stands.
Dreadhead Posted May 12, 2012 Report Posted May 12, 2012 Got up early to be a road guard at my club's bike race. Lots of fun.
morphsci Posted May 12, 2012 Author Report Posted May 12, 2012 I put together one of these last night. Not sure how well it works for its intended purpose but it did prove ultimately frustrating.
morphsci Posted May 12, 2012 Author Report Posted May 12, 2012 Sitting at graduation. My condolences.
Augsburger Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 What did you graduate with? Masters in cocktail mixing? Restarted my biking regimine thanks to all of your posting. A mere 26 miles with a 8mph headwind and 1k of climbing. Man I suck at climbing! Don't know the rest of the stats because my bike computer battery gave up the ghost.....just as well. Spent a frusterated hour trying to assemble our new pingpong table. Too bad some key nuts and bolts were missing. This is why I drink....
Grahame Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Stopped by May Madness in San Rafael Real Live Cobra (RIP CS) Just Because you can put a V8 in A bike. should you?
grawk Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 I saw a couple of cobra or cobra replicas driving around today. Lots of people showing the love.
CD44hi Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Went with the family on a bike ride. Mountain bikes for mom and pop and the girls in an InStep trailer, (for the first time). I think they liked it. I need to get them smaller profile helmets, specially on the back side. The helmets pushed towards their faces when they rested their heads on the back of the trailer. Must be irritating. I think I saw a cobra around beach drive as well.
The Monkey Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Went to see Dale DeGroff at the Manhattan Cocktail Classic with Missus Monkey and sis in law. Came home and passed out fell asleep watching Rangers game.
kunwar Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 did a Seinfeld Season 4 marathon (again!!) I blame too much caffeine for staying awake. Based in Oz (+9.5 hrs GMT) 1
