MexicanDragon
Congrats Dusty's Mom, and all the recent congrats I've missed. I had my first MRI today. I did something to my back about a month ago, and it flops between my leg and back. Started to get to where I could almost walk normally last Thursday, and had the MRI scheduled for Friday, but the machine broke down and it got pushed to today.Went from moderate leg pain (sciatica, we're thinking) to severe back pain on Friday. Had to call out of work for it today (hate tha.t), and made it through most of the 25 minute MRI before the back started acting up. Luckily I got done a minute later and will have the full doctor analysis tomorrow. I need a drink. **BRENT**

luvdunhill
Drove from Mendocino to Santa Rosa using the most circuitous way possible. Loved it.
HeadphoneAddict
Well they moved her into rehab yesterday (physical therapy rehab, not the other kind that we usually associate with the word), which was a day or two ahead of schedule, so I think it's safe to say she's "quickly on the mend". That's good news, wishing her all the best.
Wmcmanus
The answer was 69 bags @ $20 each, for a total of $1,380 of quarters, all of which I've just counted while listening to a 2-disk Dylan bootleg set. Actual total was $1,393.50. The question was how many quarters had collected in my washer and dryer at the apartments this past year or so. The light and water bills tend to be about $100 per month in total, so I the machines are priced about right at $1.50 each. Dang banks here in Cayman won't take coins unless you bag them... just one of many throwbacks from the 70's still alive and well here. grawk
seems like you need to up the price to account for wear and tear on the machines...

Dreadhead
Got dicked around by the bank some more. Here's hoping that I get to close sometime in the next week. I'm getting very tired of this.
jvlgato
there are, but the ones that aren't actually in the hospital don't run all that long. emergency lighting and enough time to bring systems down safely, if anybody can be bothered, basically. That happened to our hospital a month ago. It's funny, there are special orange outlets that are supposed to be backups for 'mission critical' use, in case of outages. So I moved all my equipment to those outlets so that I could continue patient care (computers, televideo unit). Turns out the special orange outlets were no different than any other outlet. I sure hope the cardiac monitors and oxygen pumps are plugged into something other than orange! After the event, a mass email went around asking people to identify which orange outlets didn't do anything during the outage. I'm quite CERTAIN that problem has been addressed by now ... yeah, right! The contigency plan with the electronic health records was to write your notes on paper and turn it into medical records, who would then scan your note into the computer system when was restored. I haven't seen my written notes since ...
crappyjones123
they are being scanned...
jvlgato
they are being scanned... Ha! Funny. That's what they told me about those notes from a year ago when the same thing happened. the last time this happened, late last year, the data center went down immediately. that wasn't supposed to happen. Data center must be plugged into the special orange plugs.
Grahame
^ The comp.risks forum archive http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks has countless tales of emergency / backup / recovery / systems that weren't tested / didn't work / had failure modes that were only apparent the first time they were used. People who don't learn from others history are often doomed to repeat it. Indeed.

Fitz
Well my car's been pulling hard to the right since what happened over the weekend, and my regular mechanic couldn't do anything to fix it. It looks like I have to take it to a body shop to get whatever is bent made not bent.
Salt Peanuts
It turns out that my brother-in-law now has to work this Saturday, so we cancelled our planned visit down to NYC. At least now we don't have to worry about the weather since we were planning on spending the day at the Bronx Zoo (it would've been Libby's first real zoo visit). Wmcmanus
Fucking neighbors keep piling up more junk in their yard. Nice people, and nobody is perfect... Background: They're from Trinidad and are VERY West Indian in the sense that they do things their way and like the Honey Badger, just don't give a shit. I guess what drives it all is just being extremely cheap by nature. The house itself is nice enough, but it's kind of a Frankenstein creation. When the old Holiday Inn closed down, one of them was working there, so most of the doors and windows, the window a/c units, etc. are of the mix and match variety. Whatever. Saved them some money, I'm good with that. It's just all of the junk piling up in the back yard and side yard. So I had this great idea. Since I had some extra vinyl fencing materials left over, I offered them to the guy -- enough to do his entire back yard so that he could get rid of the 612 plastic milk crates filled with rocks that forms part of his "fence" now, along with all kinds of other junk that is propped up on every imaginable angle to complete the fence. Guy says no, he's not interested, and furthermore it's his yard and he can do whatever the hell he pleases with it. I then asked him if he talked that way at his Church where he is the Youth Minister? No reply. So I think after about 15 years of somewhat peaceful co-existence, he now considers me a not-so-friendly neighbor, all because I offered him $1,500 worth of materials for free... probably enough to do his other side yard as well. The plot thickens: So since I'm sick of looking at their junk and they seem to enjoy looking at junk, I'm thinking about putting up a big pergola in that corner of my back yard. It would be about 10 feet high, 20-25 feet long, and extend out in my yard about 10 feet as well. There would be only one wall, which would be the back wall. The idea would be to completely block off the view of his back yard... simple enough, but it gets better... On my side of that wall, I could do a big vinyl wrap of something peaceful, like a beach scene, or just paint it to match the house. On his side, I could do a big vinyl wrap of the ugliest junk yard scene imaginable. Wouldn't cost me much more than the fencing materials I've offered to him. Just don't think I have the guts to actually do it...
Wmcmanus
seems like you need to up the price to account for wear and tear on the machines... You're right. Seems like they need to be replaced every 3-4 years. It's crazy because I've been in the same house for 15 years and have yet to need to replace my washer and dryer. Probably should go up to $2 each. Will raise them up next time I need to replace each machine.

At least now we don't have to worry about the weather since we were planning on spending the day at the Bronx Zoo (it would've been Libby's first real zoo visit). Probably just as well, as the weather looks like it will be wet through the weekend. My parents will be coming up with their exchange student this weekend, so I guess she will end up going back to Spain with the impression that NYC is one huge lake. MexicanDragon
Excruciating pain today, so called the doctor to get MRI results and they were able to squeeze me in at 3. Turns out I have a bulging disc between L5 an S4 (I think), and something that is narrowed between L4 and L5. Or maybe vice versa. Got a shot of something and a bottle of percosets and have a meeting with a specialist at 3 tomorrow. I wonder if they've noticed I've not been at work the past few days... **BRENT**
