jvlgato Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 I sat on planes for 22 hours between a 5-year old and a 6-year old and now know more or less how Cleverbot feels. Oh, god, that sounds just awful. I'm glad you survived! i took the day off to bake, so i've been baking. also drinking wine. one goes with the other.it's Stretch! did you fly here or there? Happy drunk baking! Looking forward to pics. I always drool at those pics ... Tomorrow we are flying as a family to Berlin but we're going business class and I am actually looking forward to the break. Oooh, have a great trip, Al! Never been, but it's high on my list! I've heard they might have some pretty good beer over there! Moved my son into his dorm. An awesome achievement! Just kidding ... (reference to my embarrassing comment for when he graduated high school) Seriously, though, that must be all kinds of bittersweet. At least that's how I imagine I'm going to feel ...
Grahame Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) Al , enjoy your Teutonic Trip, and don't forget the weisswurstfrühstück (an excuse to have beer for breakfast) in Munich Helpful hints: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A412534 + http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A593697 Edited June 22, 2011 by Grahame
Aura Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I'm supossed to be in the excellent coffee shop around the corner but all the lit up beer signs draw me in. Way to be, Mike. Enjoy!
Voltron Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Thanks for the good wishes all, and for the travel pointers Grahame. Congrat on the empty nest Mike! Go wild this weekend but please no pics of hanging around the house naked.
shellylh Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Found three little holes in the drywall and a some termites in the study today. Not something I want to have to deal with now (or ever really).
grawk Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Termites and bedbugs scare the living shit out of me. Hopefully you don't have an infestation!
morphsci Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 Found three little holes in the drywall and a some termites in the study today. Not something I want to have to deal with now (or ever really). Sounds like it's time to pick up that aardvark.
shellylh Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Termites and bedbugs scare the living shit out of me. Hopefully you don't have an infestation! Me too. I'll have to see if I can find an aardvark in the back yard.
aardvark baguette Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Did I mention I"m fully licensed / bonded / insured?
jvlgato Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Found three little holes in the drywall and a some termites in the study today. Not something I want to have to deal with now (or ever really). Uh oh. My neighbor had termites. They had gotten into the foundation, and it was a big deal. I really hope that's not the case for you. Maybe you caught it early enough?
grawk Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I wonder if my homoaners insurance would cover termite infestation? That'd be one way to get out from under this albatross
jvlgato Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Doubt it. But I'm pretty sure they'd cover bedbugs. Certainly, they'd cover super hybrid bed-term-bugs.
justin Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Thanks for the good wishes all, and for the travel pointers Grahame. Congrat on the empty nest Mike! Go wild this weekend but please no pics of hanging around the house naked. Dom and Crappy are moving in to fill the bedrooms

Dusty Chalk Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I wonder if my homoaners insurance would cover termite infestation? That'd be one way to get out from under this albatross I thought it did? It used to be required (in Maryland, anyway) when you bought the house. Also: nice.
Aimless1 Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I wonder if my homoaners insurance would cover termite infestation? That'd be one way to get out from under this albatross In a word: NO. Standard exclusion in every homeowners policy I've seen including all the standard ISO forms.
jvlgato Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 well, if by "cover" you mean "burn down the premises." Right. Cover in toxic gas, then cover in fire.
shellylh Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Ok, upon further inspection of the bugs we caught last night, it seems that they are winged carpenter ants. Not sure that it much better though.
jvlgato Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I'm sure that's not covered. Unless they're the hybrid killer Africanized type.
Voltron Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Official Travel Team luggage packed and loaded into car and boy picked up from school before learning that our flight was delayed two hours due to a labor strike in France. Had dim sum for lunch and wasted some time before heading to the airport. Now chilling in the lounge for another hour or so. The real impact is at the connection because we now leave four hours after our original departure. Oh well, we're on vacation and I'm having a Spaten so all is not lost.
Grahame Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Well, it is their national sport, after all. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1353549/Where-striking-is-a-national-sport.html http://somme-picardy-news.blogspot.com/2010/08/striking-popular-pastime-and-national.html
Dusty Chalk Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Fought with AutoIt & Windows Virtual PC -- this is ridiculous. When I have AutoIt try to launch a virtual PC, it says, "Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\system32\VMWindow.exe', please check your typing and dial again..." If I try to launch the .vmcx file directly (hoping for automatic application association), it throws up the "please pick an application to be associated with this file type" dialog, and if I try to drill down to C:\Windows\system32, it's not there, and neither is vpc.exe, VPCSettings.exe nor VPCWizard.exe. It's like I'm in a parallel universe, with the one thing I need, missing -- I.E. hell. Anyone familiar with Windows7 enough to explain to me what's going on? I know they do a lot of things with these dynamic libraries that look like folders, but...really? WTFH?
Voltron Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Farmers who park hundreds of tractors on the freeway for days.
Grahame Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 And set fire to sheep. http://www.nytimes.com/1990/09/17/world/french-protest-of-sheep-imports-turns-ugly.html http://newsthump.com/2010/10/19/french-petrol-shortage-forces-authorities-to-introduce-sheep-burning-rations/
aardvark baguette Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 stupid Frenchies. There's a redundancy joke in there somewhere...
