EdipisReks1 Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 I wrote 1.5 pages of my book on the philosophy of management. I have now written four pages. Not bad for three days! It's about treating people in your organization like people, and encouraging their growth and development in order to grow and develop whatever it is you are managing. 1 Quote
skullguise Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 In these days of buzzwords and theories on what an old company used to call "Human Capital Management" it's a pretty core thing to indeed just treat people like people. Good luck with the writing Jacob! Quote
EdipisReks1 Posted December 14, 2019 Report Posted December 14, 2019 (edited) Thank you! This is my first foray into non-fiction, not including thesis papers. It's hard work! Not that fiction isn't, too; there is a reason I never finished my "great American novel." Well, also, my "great American novel" wasn't very good. So, there are two reasons why I never finished them. Augsburger Posted December 17, 2019 Report Posted December 17, 2019 Thursday Olympic fencers from Italy, France, Czech Republic, and possibly Mexico along with two olympic coaches will begin arriving for a week and a half training camp here at our club. Lance will be fortunate enough to be able to fence with some of them to get himself ready for some upcoming national tournaments. We will be hosting the Christmas eve dinner which may end up being pretty huge. Shits about to get real. 10 Quote
Augsburger Posted December 20, 2019 Report Posted December 20, 2019 ...not that it matters but seven Russians are coming as well. Oh, and somehow we were volunteered to host Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years eve dinners. I just picked up a bunch of wine from my locker and now it seems that a case of wine will not be enough. Also I am a bit worried that we don't have enough oven space to cook all the food. There better not be any wind so I can use the BBQ to help out with the roasting. Perhaps now would be a good time to introduce the Russians, Italians, French and Czech people to Spam. Shits about to get real real. ? 1 4 Quote
Aimless1 Posted December 20, 2019 Report Posted December 20, 2019 Enjoy it while you can Greg. 1 Quote
Hopstretch Posted December 20, 2019 Report Posted December 20, 2019 You already know the key is lots and lots of good wine. 1 Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted December 20, 2019 Report Posted December 20, 2019 And vodka for the Russkies and perhaps borscht. Quote
Augsburger Posted December 21, 2019 Report Posted December 21, 2019 Maybe marinate the Spam in Vodka? 1 1 Quote

Augsburger Posted December 27, 2019 Report Posted December 27, 2019 A rare sight for southern California and an even rarer sigh from my back yard. I feel like I have been transported to Denver or something. 10 Quote
Augsburger Posted December 28, 2019 Report Posted December 28, 2019 Please refer to October 2019 and October 2018. 2 Quote
Augsburger Posted December 28, 2019 Report Posted December 28, 2019 For clarification /\ /\ /\ , the hillside in the foreground and the hillside to the right not pictured had flames peaking over the top back in October 2018. White stuff is always more welcome than the red stuff. 4 Quote
Augsburger Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 Took Mary and Lance to LAX this morning at 3:45. Though getting up at 2 in the morning is tough it is well worth it to be able to drive the freeways with no traffic. The 45 minute commute this morning can take as much as two hours if you are unlucky enough to be going to LAX in the late morning or afternoon. Fingers crossed for a good experience in Charlotte this weekend. 3 Quote
jose Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 At dawn from 31 to 1, I had an acute peritonitis ... so I left the year in the operating room ? 11 Quote
skullguise Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 Whoa! Are you OK/recovering now? 1 Quote
Craig Sawyers Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 WTF? That sounds distinctly not nice at all. How are you post op? 1 Quote
ironbut Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 Hope the recovery is coming along okay Jose! Funny, I was watching the New Years celebrations on tv and a couple of gals at Time Square said they were from The Canary Islands. " I wonder if Jose knows them?" Crossed my mind (as if there are only 20 folks living there or something stupid like that). Anyway,.. Get well soon (and give us the gory details when you're up to it)! 1 Quote
Craig Sawyers Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 I know this is small beer compared to what Jose has gone through in the last couple of days, but three weeks post op on my finger this is what it looks like now. I'm really pleased with the outcome, and the remaining scar will fade away pretty much totally. 8 Quote
jose Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 Thanks guys!!! Craig, I'm glad you're fine. That finger already looks good!! Now I am fine. They have allowed me to return home today in the afternoon. For a moment I saw myself as one of Alien's characters. Since I have not been able to say goodbye to the year, now I will take the fucking medicines and start listening to some music at home. Iron: where were they from exactly? 5 Quote
mwl168 Posted January 2, 2020 Report Posted January 2, 2020 Very glad to know you are doing fine now. You got the drug and rock'n roll, only one thing missing ... 2 Quote
