Dreadhead Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 Nice Chris. A Peninsula house? Nope on a "normal" edge of the lake and it has close-by neighbors on both sides. Still enough privacy though because of all the trees. Lower road traffic also.
shellylh Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 (edited) but then you'd be in atlanta, which is one of the few american cities worse than houston I actually enjoy living in Houston (at least in the area of town where I live and hang out*). I bet you it is a LOT different here than when you were here. Things have changed quite a lot even since I was a graduate student 1997-2002. *There are probably a lot of really crappy areas though. grawk Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 The parts I didn't like about houston were the climate, the pollution, and the climate. I'd bet 2 of the 3 are worse than I remember, and the third is probably still worse than I'd like I did really like the Rice campus, and the area around Rice. Except when it was above 80 degrees. 1
shellylh Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 (edited) Oh, yeah the climate hasn't changed too much (assuming you are talking about weather). I like the warmth and humidity so it is good for me. The political climate has probably changed though. The pollution isn't too fun but it is hard to get away from pollution being in a big city. What I don't like: (1) mosquitos, (2) giant cockroaches, (3) you can't buy liquor on Sundays (except in restaurants), (4) public transportation is getting better but still isn't great. grawk Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 I wasn't in Houston enough to know it's politics. It's the weather I dislike. And how the weather traps the bad air.
acidbasement Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 Just found a schwack of morels in my lane. Eleanor doesn't trust my mushroom ID skills, but she's out of town. I've never tried one, but they are supposedly delicious. 3
Seed Lady Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 Oh yeah ---- lucky dude. Either fresh or dried, awesome in pasta, just add butter
Salt Peanuts Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 What I don't like: (1) mosquitos, (2) giant cockroaches Do not move to Japan.
shellylh Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Do not move to Japan. and I don't like seafood so I probably would be pretty unhappy.
luvdunhill Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 But have you considered the advances in toilet tech? Perhaps you can get integrated Stax amps these days!

I've never tried one, but they are supposedly delicious. Wow! Those are a big delicacy around here. People go morel hunting and sell them for good money, or keep them and show them off to friends. I've read about people falling off cliffs while morel hunting. Nice find! 1
luvdunhill Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Typed in a much of mumbo jumbo to order some CDs that won't ship to the U.S. to instead ship to a random address in Osaka that may or may not send them to me. Rather thrilling, especially for someone about to be under the knife
Voltron Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Best of luck with the surgery, Marc. And the CDs. 1
swt61 Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Yeah, well if you're ever looking for the other type of "CDs", I'm sure I can get them sent to you anywhere in the US. And good luck with the surgery. Count your limbs before and after! 1
agile_one Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Belated glads that both Shelly and Naaman survived the floods. Marc - trust the knife will fix your bad parts. Swift recovery ... 2

I've never tried one, but they are supposedly delicious. I have had them once; they are divine on steak. Those look like the real deal. From what I read, they go for a king's ransom, because they cannot be grown. You have to stumble upon them. And people get very territorial hunting. The reason is that over harvesting wipes them out of an area.
