Dreadhead Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) Your Navy job is way cooler than mine Nate. I spent the last two days in a room with a bunch of university professors asking a bunch of questions and being talked down to when I explained that we already looked at their great idea and it didn't work.... I also found out that senior managment here doesn't actually value managing research engineers effectively and solving problems. Therefore I am going to have to some how keep up a full or almost full research load along with helping out department wide so as to be able to make a case for getting an actual promotion not just an in-title and more responsibility promotion. n_maher Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 My job has its good days and bad, Chris. I suspect that if you hung out with me this Thursday that you'd have a radically different view. Gene, yes Charlestown would make a great meeting spot but there is certainly no shortage of good/great spots in Portsmouth. You just pick one and I'll be there .
ironbut Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Awesome pic's Nate! Nothing like being there though.
grawk Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I'm on a navy base this week too. Taking a class down at the Naval Oceanography center at the Stennis Space Center.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 They used to temper swords by running them through people. Just sayin'. Sent from mah phone-blet via Tapatalk
Augsburger Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Jacob, I think you need more Shaolin Monk training sessions.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I think he's thinking of their imperviousness to getting burned, like when they walk across hot coals.
Iron_Dreamer Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 business maco-economics. it would have been fine, but it just went too quickly, so each week i didn't know if i had learned the stuff that later stuff was built on, until yet later stuff built on the second stuff was due. i'd be fine in a regular semester, but with the restructuring at work, and life as it is now, i just didn't have enough time to devote to it presented this way. i also need to completely relearn algebra, which i'll do before i take the class again. withdrawing now doesn't count against me, as long as i take it again (which i have to to get the degree).Econ minus algebra, yeah that would be kinda rough. At least it wasn't the kind of econ class you'd have needed calculus for.
crappyjones123 Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Stochastic business models. Fuck yeah. Actually it was the most mind numbing class ever.
skullguise Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Went on a Harbor Cruise as part of a work award for a project I was on. Saw the same two ships in Nate's pics. Got to meet some fine and fun folks from Colombia who we supported on this project.....
Salt Peanuts Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Took the day off from work to do more cleaning around the yard, getting lawn chairs, etc. Predictably, it's raining.
morphsci Posted May 23, 2013 Author Report Posted May 23, 2013 Fucking SAS Coding. Well that is what I have been doing for the past two weeks. Since SAS has not updated their handling and interconversion of matrices and data sets in the last 30 years and this should have taken at most two days, I think I will be switching to R.
agile_one Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Hah ... that brings back memories of late. late nights in the ancient past trying to get SAS to do what we needed, Jim. Fucking SAS, indeed.
shellylh Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 You just can't catch a break Jacob, sorry. Dental problems suck.
blessingx Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 Getting ready to try something we haven't done in over a decade.
Voltron Posted May 25, 2013 Report Posted May 25, 2013 (edited) Getting ready to try something we haven't done in over a decade. You're going to graffiti that blank billboard? Whoa! Shelly beat me with the same joke. Edited May 25, 2013 by Voltron 1
