grawk Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 drained my water heater went to an asian supermarket and spent $400 came back, replaced the heating elements in my water heater
thrice Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 Been working on setting up the new place... gotta get the office/workshop/guest room in order. So far it's just been the dumping ground for everything I don't want to deal with.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 drained my water heater went to an asian supermarket and spent $400 came back, replaced the heating elements in my water heater You got your hardware at an asian supermarket?
grawk Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 nope, I wasted 3 hrs while the water heater drained driving to baltimore and back and going to an asian grocery
Salt Peanuts Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Drove down to Washington D.C. Between needing to stop for our daughter, lunch, and various traffic congestion, the drive took 11 hours instead of 7. At least the apartment we're staying is nice.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 They grow up so fast. Me: did my taxes, I owed. I sure hope I don't get laid off.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Yeah, it's my own fault. Later, when I have time, I'm going to revisit it. Mostly it's the hit my savings took when I thought I was going to be unemployed last year for longer than I was, then didn't put it back when I got a new job like I should have. I just suck at moneys. Although now I want to get laid off, so I can come lie on your couch and have you feed me French food. Do you watch Whites?
Salt Peanuts Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 What you in town for? Family vacation with in-laws, and visiting my wife's extended family in the area as well. The in-laws somehow managed to avoid most of traffic so they actually got to DC only hour later than they were planning. Much to our (my wife and I) joy, the complete change in the routine meant that our daughter (almost 3) would not fall asleep (or stay asleep) and then she woke up way too early. Consequently, neither my wife nor I got enough or good sleep. I think I'll be injecting myself with coffee today.
Dreadhead Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 (edited) Well I hope you have a nice trip. It's going to be a lovely day. I totally understand about the kid sleep thing, been there too. Just got done walking around old town with the family and off for a 9am bike ride.<br /> Edited April 14, 2013 by Dreadhead
Salt Peanuts Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Camera issues all day today at the National Zoo, including ruining a roll of film by accident. It doesn't help the matter that we are generally in foul mood com lack of sleep.
shellylh Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Just spent 2 hours deciding on and buying flights to France this summer. I thought United was horrible until I starting using the Delta webpage (what a nightmare). I really hate that United got rid of their non-stop flight to Paris.
MexicanDragon Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Why don't you just type in the airport codes into Google? I've found great rates just doing that lately. Oh, and I hear that you may get worse rates if you keep looking for the same stuff over and over, so I'd try going with an Incognito tab (CTRL+SHIFT+T), or whatever you Mac heads do, and searching that route. **BRENT**
Dusty Chalk Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Helped clean my mother's apartment some more. Took a couple of paintings into protective custody (neither of the girls wanted it -- well one of them did, but didn't want to get too greedy, but when she gets a new apartment (she's looking) I'll offer her the one) and a really nice brass pepper grinder from Turkey. Recommendations on cleaning it? Vinegar only?
dsavitsk Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 I took a blacksmithing class and made a fire pokey. Now I need to get a fireplace. 2
blessingx Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Even without a fireplace there are lots of things to do with a 'pokey.' Edited April 15, 2013 by blessingx
jvlgato Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) That sucks. I hate dental work! This. Nice pokey, Doug! Edited April 15, 2013 by jvlgato
skullguise Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 That's very good for the first time doing it, Doug. A high school friend of mine does this for a living now, some of his work is quite incredible!
Salt Peanuts Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 That looks fun, Doug. Makes me wish we still used our fireplace.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Or you could just leave it lying around to clobber intruders with.
Augsburger Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Nice work Doug. In LA we call those "Road Rage Assessories" Edited April 15, 2013 by Augsburger
dsavitsk Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) That's very good for the first time doing it, Doug. A high school friend of mine does this for a living now, some of his work is quite incredible! Thanks. I would attribute any success to the teacher. My grandfather, and his father, were blacksmiths, so I grew up with some of their work around the house -- I have a deeper appreciation for it now. I also played 2 hours of tennis afterwards, so I am feeling it today. Edited April 15, 2013 by dsavitsk
Dusty Chalk Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 We've been using Google hangout to videoconference our weekly meetings at work, and I did it from home today because I was running behind schedule. I resisted the urge to pick Bobby up and hold him and make him look like he was dancing in front of the camera.
