thrice Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Spent the day with my daughter. Target for errands, she helped pic out our new bath mat. Then to Whole Foods to have lunch with her mother. That went well. Then back home and met our next door neighbor. She's a curator for the NC botanical gardens, so that cool. We met her two dogs as well. Overall a great day. She's with her mother next weekend and I think I'll be building a little water play table for the back porch since its warm enough for that sort of thing now. Single parenting is tiring but overall I'm getting everything done. Abi rolls with the punches well too. I forgot to get something for dinner and she was fine with us popping out to the store to get it. No complaints. Great kid.
morphsci Posted April 8, 2013 Author Report Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) First soccer tournament of the season. A much improved team this season. 1-0-1 so far. I think we are going to change Peter's middle name to Bastian. Edited April 8, 2013 by morphsci

n_maher Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 That's great to hear Stephen! This. I had the kids solo for most of the weekend (the wife was ill) and it is during times like this that I often think that single parents, the good ones anyway, are more remarkable than they get credit for. Enjoy your time away too, Stephen, and don't dwell on what you're not doing next weekend.

I'm happy to have it mind you, but a break would be nice. Next weekend will be filled with fun stuff... Friends on friday night and some fun plans for the rest of the weekend.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Helped my sisters clean my mom's apartment some more.
shellylh Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 It was a fine day for alligator hunting watching. Went to Brazos Bend State Park. It was a gorgeous day and there were tons of gators out (I would guess we saw 20-30 and we weren't there that long). The turtles and birds were great too.
agile_one Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Nice outing, Shelly, and nice wildlife pics, particularly the last one of the ginger yeti.
guzziguy Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Shelly, if you really want a lot of visitors, you should talk about the attractive lady walking in front of the Ginger Avenger. It would be best if you made something up like she is available and digs men with large ... headphones.
robm321 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Hopefully in a good way. Yes, insanely good - Amazing actually! We all (girlfriend and family) enjoyed it (read: were blown away). The drummer and bassist were no slouches either. The jazz center was very nice also. I look forward to seeing more shows there.
swt61 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Nice outing, Shelly Wait, what? Shelly outed Colin? Like that's big news. 1

Looking very forward to it!

Enjoy your time away too, Stephen, and don't dwell on what you're not doing next weekend. This. I took a day off and brought my daughter to see her doctor since she started showing some symptoms of strep yesterday - right after 10 days of antibiotics she was taking for strep ended. They couldn't do a rapid strep test this time around so we won't know if she still has strep until Wednesday, but considering her daycare had 11 absences today due to strep, we're not hopeful. Thankfully, I don't have one (yet) so I can go to work tomorrow while my wife takes the day off. Edited April 8, 2013 by Salt Peanuts

shellylh Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 We noticed recently that we had a new fruit tree in our backyard. I realized today that it is a guava tree! Now, if we can just get more fruit growing than the squirrels can steal, we'll be in good shape.
livewire Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 Kewl! We got one in our backyard that yields four or five pounds of fruit each year. Just love bringing in a handful of fresh picked guavas and leaving them on the kitchen countertop. The aroma is fantastic!
Dreadhead Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 You should learn to make stewed guava. It is one of the things I miss a lot from my carribean youth and I still love it whenever I'm home. Example recipe: http://its-our-life-for-six.blogspot.com/2009/11/guavasguavasand-more-guavas.html Though my family's recipe is slightly different in that we strain off the seeds.
agile_one Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 Shelly - have you searched cocktail recipes for Guava? Bet there are a bunch.
