acidbasement Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Glad you and your stuff are alright, Steve! I spent the last few days at a land-use planning conference. It was okay, but people weren't having enough fun. I guess I'm used to academic conferences, where partying is a given. Today I assembled a NordicTrack elliptical machine for our basement.
Augsburger Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Glad you made it through the brush fire. Perhaps now is a good time to do some creative landscaping and put in a moat.
shellylh Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Glad you and your home are ok Steve, jeez that it's scary!
skullguise Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Glad to hear you and house are OK, Steve. Was there any peripheral heat damage?
swt61 Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) Just some smoke damage, well that and a few melted lounge chairs. I'm right on the edge of a large area of dry brush, or I was before today. Apparently the fire started in a home about 3/4 mile away, earlier in the day. They thought they had the fire under control, but it flared up again later. http://www.kztv10.com/news/large-brush-fire-threatens-homes-in-aransas-pass/ Edited March 2, 2013 by swt61
Dusty Chalk Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Melted lounge chairs...Dali-esque pics please? Oh and: :eep:^2. That's closer than I imagined. Knowing how much wood you probably have around, you're taking this a lot more calmly than...well, than I am. Sent frum mah phone-blet using Tapatalk.
guzziguy Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Holy shit, that is way too close Steve, but glad it stopped short! Something Steve has never done.
Wmcmanus Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Wow! That was close, Steve. Hope the smoke damage isn't too severe, but that's what insurance is for. Sorry for your neighbors. Hope none of them lost their homes.

tyrion Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 This is exhausting and there are two more and it's only morning: 2
agile_one Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Steve ... so glad nothing more than heat and smoke, but that's scary enough. Mike --- wtf, you didn't tell us you were starting a 2nd family?
tyrion Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Yup, I figured at 52 it was a good idea to adopt a 6,4 and 2-2year olds. I need Red Bull and I need it bad. 4
n_maher Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 HA @ Mike. I just sent the kids to Nana and Papa's till tomorrow morning. 3
agile_one Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Nate ... we get a lot of that these days. Have a great day and night off. Mike ... I feel your pain - presently in Ridgewood with 7 and 3 yo with two more incoming. It's all good.
The Monkey Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 HA @ Mike. I just sent the kids to Nana and Papa's till tomorrow morning. This. Little Monkey is downstairs with Grandma. They understand each other.
Salt Peanuts Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 We're leaving our daughter today with my sister and her boyfriend for few hours to catch few drinks and a play.
skullguise Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Dang, can someone take my 14 year old for a bit? Glad dads and moms getting a break, thanks to those who take care of the kids....we had our share of those breaks.
tyrion Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Dang, can someone take my 14 year old for a bit? Bring him down to Baltimore.
thrice Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 I'm off to a hike with the local hiking group I've joined. Should be a nice 2 hours.
swt61 Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 None of my neighbors had any serious damage either. These firefighters really worked their asses off, and they have my gratitude and respect. A crew stayed all night to keep watch for hot spots. Sorry Dusty, already hauled chairs to dump. They were nice zero gravity loungers, but a very small cost considering. Power washed side wall this morning, but will need a coat of new paint. I'm a happy camper!
guzziguy Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Glad that damage was minimal at your and your neighbor's places.
