Yes, I used a "drain tool".  It was a pair of channel locks turned upside down.  I tried to turn it with just my hands and broke one of the cross hair members.  I'll buy a drain tool today and try again tomorrow.  My plan is to apply some heat to the drain and then try with the drain tool after a small cooling time.

The tiler is going to float the tile.  Otherwise I'd give your suggestion a try.

Lastly, I demo'ed the drywall out to the stud.  About 18" down from the ceiling, I measured the distance from the exposed stud to the next, covered stud.  Then I added 7/8" to put a cut right in the middle of the 2x4.  I drew a perpendicular line to that measurement and made a ceiling to floor cut along the line.  My cut came out basically perpendicular.

Unfortunately, unlike all the other exposed studs, this on is not perpendicular.  At the ceiling, 1/4" of the stud is exposed.  At 18" down from the ceiling where I measured, it's right in the middle of the stud.  At the floor, there is a 1 5/8" gap from the drywall to the stud.  That's how much it leans.

Nothing like good old American craftsmanship, and this was in 1957 or 58, when American craftsmanship was supposed to be good. :palm:

Pictures to follow.

Probably some old headphone gear.     Remember those days?

Yup.  I definitely found some stray cables and whatnots.  I actually found a nice HD650 box, but I sold the headphones long ago.

Nice smashing things, Ken!

Shipped out the "Tower of Power". I'm a little sad, but I still have the excellent F5 as a K1000 amp, and the new "Micro Tower of Power".

Also it's going to an excellent home, so that eases the pain. Enjoy Ric!!!

I kicked butt at work today and then played Yahtzee all evening with my visiting mother.  Nice day.  Hoping to get a bike ride in early tomorrow and then a day of music with John, if that's still happening and if it doesn't rain.

Just got back from the Sunshine Blues Festival with John.   Not so sunshiny, as we stood in the rain for at least a couple of the eight hours we were there, but worth it.  One of my fav bands, the Woods Brothers, were there, and wonderful.  A pretty amazing guitarist, Matt Scofield, and his trio from the UK were a highlight.  The Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked azz as the closer.  We managed to get next to the stage for all the acts, and although I won't be walking tomorrow, I'd do it again.  Really nice time.

I totally echo Vicki's comments I have to get some Wood Brothers!! TTD rocked and did a killer cover of Isn't It A Pity and finished with some Sly and the Family Stone.  Altogether an amazing show

We saw Tedeschi Trucks last year in Chicago and we were blown away. Derek Trucks is the spirit brother of Duane Allman as far as I'm concerned, and Susan did some astounding guitar work too. Glad you guys got to see them.
