mikeymad Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Flew to Berkeley today for a quick trip. Unfortunately, no time to try and get together with any Norcal folks. Going to try and get some Pliny on tap tomorrow night though. By the way, I never thought I would say this but flying Southwest Airlines is so much better than United/Continental. Too bad they don't have more direct flights to places I want to go. Thought I felt a little TX in the in the norcal vibe... Welcome Shelly.... If you do find any time. let us know. Try to come to you. Cheers, Mikey
MexicanDragon Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 That sucks, Dinny. Hope everyone gets better post-haste. **BRENT**
Salt Peanuts Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 ^ This. I'm actually bit nervous about our upcoming vacation as well with Missus Salty starting to feel under the weather the past day or so.
skullguise Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Vacations with sick people (or heavily teething babies in our case years ago) do not rule....hope everyone feels better/OK.......
jvlgato Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Yup, sick kids during trips is the worst. Get better, The Monkeys. Happy trip to you, Shelly!
Dreadhead Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 That sucks Dinny. I hope things improve. Are you going to take the rest of the vacation time off at home? Staycation in NYC sounds pretty good.
grawk Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Did my first night of on call in 8 years. Started my new job last week, and part of that is being on call. I didn't get called tho, so it's not too bad so far. Knock on wood. Feel better dinner.
skullguise Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) Good luck with the on-call. Haven't done that for years either, don't miss it at all (especially since the application I was supporting at that time was designed by a dolt and needed almost nightly attention). Do you get extra $ for being on-call....? Edited April 11, 2012 by skullguise
grawk Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 I get employed for being on call... I get paid for when I work (hourly), and I don't mind being on call. The main difference is the system I run does lots of time dependent things (my system is the live weather forecasting system for the national weather service), when before I was responsible for research systems. So every 6th week I'm on call.
Dreadhead Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Congrats on the new job Dan and good luck with the on call nights. Are you on call of 1 night every 6 weeks? That doesn't seem bad.
Dreadhead Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Ah that's what I figured once I thought about it some more. Today I said goodbye to our last house guest after more than 3 weeks of having guests (3 different groups). It was awesome having them but I'm glad to have our house back to normal again.
MexicanDragon Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Wow... you may wind up working, on average, MORE than one day/mo? You gonna make it? **BRENT**
n_maher Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Fuuuuuu @ Dinny, hope the recovery is swift. Congrat to Dan, employment is good.
agile_one Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) 'grats on new gig, Dan. Sorry vaca cut short, Dinny. Next time visit FL west coast. Hope Mrs Salty gets well for vaca. Shelly - enjoy the Pliny, and have one for me. Southwest has many flights to Tampa ... just saying' Edited April 11, 2012 by agile_one
Fitz Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Finally got far enough with my car to start putting things back together and hopefully finish dealing with it today, and I realize the replacement belt for the one they sent the wrong part is STILL WRONG. Jesus christ, how fucking hard is it to read part number?!
boomana Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Dinny, sorry about the vacation. That sounds worse than a vacation.
jvlgato Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) went running for the first time in 20 years Did you piss someone off? And congrats on the job! Edited April 12, 2012 by jvlgato
grawk Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 No, I'm scared of being on blood pressure mess for 50 years.
jvlgato Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Oooh, that. I hear you. I ended up on a lifetime of blood pressure meds around your age. I've been doing cardio and have been trying to eat better forever. But I'm fighting genetics .. at least I'm on the lowest dose possible, plus my Dad was on meds in his 20s. Now, if I can stay off cholesterol meds ..,
grawk Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I did 2 miles in 12 minutes 22 years ago. Given the huge break I took in between, I'm doing ok. My goal is 5 miles in 45 minutes.
