Old Pa Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Yesterday I realized my passport was expiring at the end of March, so I picked up the renewal application and instructions ($110 now, up from $40 last time). Remembered that on my last renewal, they required the names, birthplaces and birthdates of my parents. I had those in memory, but I called up my mom to confirm her birth year. We had a nice conversation, the last I would ever have with her. She died suddenly three days later. Yesterday I went through my old passport and realized I hadn't been out of the country during the last ten years. I love to travel, and during the previous ten years we has been to Canada several times, to Mexico several times and to Great Britain twice. But with SWMBO, it had gotten to be just taking our fight on the road, so I had stopped participating. This divorce has been a long time coming.

spritzer Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) I spent the morning replacing all the wheels under the large baking racks in the bakery. These go through multiple 24°C->230°C->24°C cycles every day so after a few years the wheels are toast and it was no fun removing all of them with all of the bolts seized up. After that is was time to prebake 250 new baking plates to remove all the residue from them and to feed them through a machine which polishes and oils them. The upside was a visit from Norway in the afternoon. I was selling my T1 amp on HF and this guy asked if he could just pick it up in person. He had some friends here so why not save on the shipping. I knew he would arrive here yesterday but we hadn't set any specific time to meet up. I told him where the bakery is so he just showed up there and we had a lovely chat. jvlgato Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Not today, but yesterday got together with luvdunhill and mypasswordis for a nice little pizza & beers dinner @ Pizzeria Paradiso. My first time. Mah speech got a little slurred -- good thing I wasn't driving home. It was nice. Sounds nice! I'll bet you learned more about violins than you thought was ever possible!
Dusty Chalk Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 I like hearing about musical instruments.
spritzer Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 norway is pretty far away from iceland, isn't it? There is a nice stretch of the Atlantic between us so at least 2.5 hours in a plane. Only a few days on a well built viking ship though...

spritzer Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 A week probably. Depends on how much he's had to drink and how many mushrooms he's eaten...
The Monkey Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Spend most of the day on conference calls discussing stupid, boring shit.
Voltron Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Spend most of the day on conference calls discussing stupid, boring shit. Hey, that's what I do most of the time these days!
Aimless1 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Spend most of the day on conference calls discussing stupid, boring shit. Now you know what middle age is like.

Dreadhead Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 got yelled at when presenting in front of a group of "pillars" of my field. Yay life.
swt61 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) I made my first concrete countertops for a customer today. No pics yet, but they turned out beautiful. Now I know that I'll make them for my own kitchen one day. I colored the concrete Black before pouring into custom forms, made of melamine plywood, for an ultra smooth finish. Ooh, I wish you could do ours for the bathroom. We have gone back and forth yea and nay on poured concrete but I think it would be very cool. If cooler with Dr. Wood love in it (yes, I assume you jizz in the mix just to personalize it).
NightWoundsTime Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 http://www.digbejeweled.com/ LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Oldie but a goodie.
luvdunhill Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I like hearing about musical instruments. I like playing them. Thanks Justin, that was quite the experience..
mypasswordis Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Maybe next time will be somewhat better organized. There's still the second movement of the Bach double and then the "lost" BWV 1067. I don't know if you saw but we have a baby grand Yamaha so technically Dusty could come over and sightread the piano part if you have it.

Now I'm off to bed. Tomorrow I have to wake up early and drive me mum an hour north so she can have surgery. I'll be spending all day in the hospital. They'd better have wi-fi, or I'm gonna end up in the psych department.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 http://www.digbejeweled.com/ LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Be careful with that stuff, you could go blind. I'm already hard-of-seeing
jvlgato Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I'd like to have been a fly on the wall and heard this conversation! I enjoy hearing musicians talk music. A whole different level of knowledge ...
jvlgato Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I'd just hate that. One advantage of not having a driveway.
