mikeymad Posted October 8, 2022 Report Posted October 8, 2022 Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 2; Scherzi Seong-Jin ChoLondon Symphony OrchestraGianandrea Noseda 2021 https://album.link/i/1571456295 Example: I have not heard someone attack Chopin like this in a long time. Impressive and very listenable. 2 Quote
mikeymad Posted October 9, 2022 Report Posted October 9, 2022 No Sun Nite Jewel 2021 https://album.link/i/1560738062 (link tree needs to be updated) Example: Hard to categorize - the opening track sound like the beginning to a musical. The album is eclectic, pretty, surprising, and probably deeper than appears at first listen. Reminds me of the first time I heard Goldfrapp. 3 Quote
mikeymad Posted October 9, 2022 Report Posted October 9, 2022 Absence Terence Blanchard 2021 https://album.link/i/1575807410 Example: Some very good Serious Sunday Jazz (SSJ). Throw in the The E-Collective and Turtle Island Quartet, and you have a lot of meat on the bone to come back to. 1 Quote
mikeymad Posted October 11, 2022 Report Posted October 11, 2022 Careless Love (Deluxe Edition) Madeleine Peyroux 2004 https://album.link/i/1565053848 Example: Just some lovely close mic recordings. I really like this style. The deluxe does not add much to me, the studio tracks are so well recorded and lush that the addition of live tracks does not enhance anything for me. Maybe the only problem with a really good recording, that is what I want to listen to. 5 Quote

mikeymad Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 Bastion Original Soundtrack Darren Korb 2011 https://song.link/i/459457476 Example: A game that I can honestly say that I completed 3 times just because I wanted to listen to the soundtrack again, in context. It has a very Firefly soundtrack feel to it. The story and game built up to such a level that I find it hard to fight back tears when the above Zia's theme comes in. 2 Quote
jose Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 O.S Avalon. Kenji Kawai with Warsaw Philharmonic The National Orchestra, Choir of Warsaw Philharmonic The National Orchestra and Elżbieta Towarnicka The film is very interesting, in a dystopian world where people play a war/survival game called Avalon in VR. Terrifyingly similar to what our world could be (Metaverse...). The soundtrack is frankly good, especially the choral parts are quite striking and put in trouble the ability of an equipment to put the voices in their places quickly enough. 4 Quote
mikeymad Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 Overpass Marc Johnson 2021 https://album.link/i/1576344696 Example: Bass Bass and More Bass. Wonderful sounding album. If your system has capacity for low end. Pick you fav high res platform and let it roll over you. 2 Quote
mikeymad Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 One more for today: Fragments Trifecta 2021 https://album.link/i/1563955603 Example: Prog? Fusion? Jazz? All of the above. this album is all over the place. I guess it is aptly named 'Fragments'. There is interesting bits all over the place. I like the ideas, and there are great players, but it does not really come together as a whole. 2 Quote

This is the music I absolutely worship. This is right up there with Sonicbloom-era Hiromi, in my book. 1 Quote

blessingx Posted October 14, 2022 Report Posted October 14, 2022 Walked into a store playing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Watched others walk in and confusingly look around and then at each other. Anyone have an earlier date? 1 Quote

blessingx Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 (edited) Yea, same thought on Morphine, which guess if we’re all thinking of the same exception proves Stretch’s point. And whenever I think of Morphine I think of the Bay Area band Fuck. And just looking up Fuck for some playback, stumbled across a similarly named band… And more… Edited October 15, 2022 by blessingx 1 1 Quote

Do I understand French? Nope. Do I like the music? Yup. Did I add the album to my queue several months ago based on the album cover? ....maybe.... 1 Quote
