Nothing against Mahler (rumor is he's okay), but Yacht Rock Tuesdays! At least until we're sick of Michael McDonald (which should have been a few decades ago).

Hunting for tracks out there from the Yacht Rock-ettes, "The world's first, and only, female-fronted Yacht Rock cover band. Smooth AF."

And I may have a new favorite website, Yacht or Nyacht? https://www.yachtornyacht.com

Bad Brains' Sailin' On is a hard nyacht.

^^ That group was my first "alternative music" like.  I was a big Pink Floyd fan, and they (and Teardrop Explodes) were written up in Rolling Stone as being part of the new Psychedelic-influenced sound in the UK.  I got each band's first album in 1980 and was a fan big time.

Got to see them live, then Ian M. solo after Pete de Freitas passed away and they had broken up.  Unique and wonderful voice....great band all around.

Funny story: when I saw them, it was at a club called The Channel in Boston.  I had a college friend (also named Todd) who got so drunk at the show we had to help him outside, he could barely walk.  The 4 of us went around the side so he could puke in private....and out walks the band to their bus!  We got to chat briefly, and said how much we liked them and the show.  Will Sergeant chuckled a bit and said something like "I think you're friend didn't really like us...." 😄

Connections
Matthew Whitaker
2021

https://album.link/i/1574793651

Example:

I went into this one blind. I thought I heard or heard-of Matthew before (this is where Al will say - yes, we went to an SF Jazz show, and we met him - I can accept that). But I went in pretty blind, and at first, I was not sure. It felt like it was a little bit out there and a touch out of control, but then the songs just kept coming, 16 of them for almost an hour and a half. It started to feel more like a jam session (or a series of them). And they were all over the place, standards (like the Rondo above), to heavy groove tracks. I queued it up again before I began this post, and I don't have any reservations that I had before. This will go into rotation.

Not this time, Mikey, I don't know anything about him and haven't seen or met him at SFJAZZ. 😆 I will check out the album.

Not sure if this is already widely known, but Cookie Marenco heard Laurie Anderson mention it, then did post to tell others. Radio Garden is a very cool app where you scroll the Earth to find radio stations.
So currently listening to: http://radio.garden/listen/yumi-fm-93-0/aMOv7kiE

Here’s a good starting point: http://radio.garden/playlist/rare-tongues/9M0t3goK
