Dusty Chalk Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 Yello 40 Years -- I actually got the (slightly less) recent box set, but don't have all the variety of players it entails (shiny disk, analog disk, analog tape, &c.), so since this new-ish one is now available on Tidal...listening to this on Tidal. Because priorities. 3
mikeymad Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 But can they play a set? Yes.... Yes they can.... 2
johnwmclean Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 High Tension An Australian band, at least some of our music is still cool even if our French relations are shit. 1
skullguise Posted September 23, 2021 Report Posted September 23, 2021 ^^ Not what i expected! But I guess with a name like High Tension..... Fun stuff.....

Hopstretch Posted September 24, 2021 Report Posted September 24, 2021 (edited) I got a tape of this album as a present for my birthday in 1984 right after it released and this is still one of my favorite soppy songs to this day. Also has the great Blasphemous Rumours. So I am listening to Some Great Reward. Edited September 24, 2021 by Hopstretch 6
Kattefjaes Posted September 24, 2021 Report Posted September 24, 2021 (edited) This is legitimately the most cheerful and uplifting set I've heard in ages. It's sort of bhangramuffin, but straddles genres with a cheeky grin, there's house, two-step, jungle, borderline happy hardcore and goodness knows what else in there. Absolutely delightful. blessingx Posted September 24, 2021 Report Posted September 24, 2021 (edited) Anyone else give this a listen? Is it just me or is this a pretty uninspiring cover collection? I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute to The Velvet Underground & Nico Ex. On to much better... Sufjan Stevens & Angelo De Augustine's A Beginner's Mind "The theme is philosophical musings on movies, ranging from Old Hollywood (All About Eve) to monster flicks (The Thing), horror (Hellraiser III, Night of the Living Dead), modern classics (She's Gotta Have It, Silence of the Lambs; the album is dedicated to director Jonathan Demme who died in 2017), even action (Point Break). Opener "Reach Out"—based on director Wim Wenders' fantasy Wings of Desire—is a mindbender: Is this sublime harmony and gentle guitar Simon & Garfunkel circa 1965? Then there’s the twee and wistful, almost medieval folk of “Olympus” whose chanted “There’s no place like home” chorus might make you think The Wizard of Oz but is, in fact, based on Clash of the Titans and focuses on the love story of Perseus and Andromeda..." I’ll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute to The Velvet Underground & Nico I feel like these types of things are usually pretty terrible. I also find St. Vincent to be uninspiring regardless of the context. 1

I just listened listened earlier to two Psychic TV covers I thought were excellent: Pink Floyd's Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun and Beach Boys' Good Vibrations. Have not listened yet to the VU tribute album, though.

Indeed. The Disposable Heroes track on Virus 100 is fantastic. 44 minutes ago, skullguise said: Psychic TV cover: ... Beach Boys' Good Vibrations. That's a great track. I don't know the other one.
