Yo La Tengo -- There's A Riot Goin' On

Quote

“In 1971, when the nation appeared to be on the brink of violently coming apart, Sly and the Family Stone released There’s a Riot Goin’ On, an album of dark, brooding energy,” reads a press statement. “Now, under similar circumstances, Yo La Tengo have issued a record with the same name but with a different force, an album that proposes an alternative to anger and despair.”

There might be albums out there that are as good, but I am doubtful there are any that are better.

I've always been curious about this one... Matador is re-releasing the Exile in Guyville on May 4, but I'm not sure if the remastering will be a step forward, backward, or sideways, considering how well the original was regarded:

I'm skeptical about remastering - I can't say I've ever really heard a remaster that I thought was much better, but I have certainly heard plenty that were worse. This one feels pretty easy to get wrong. But I am excited about the re-release of the old demo tapes. That should be fun.
