Dusty Chalk Posted May 24, 2017 Report Posted May 24, 2017 Art of Noise, In Visible Silence (deluxe edition) -- damn, this remaster sounds excellent ... the noise floor is practically gone. 1
swt61 Posted May 25, 2017 Report Posted May 25, 2017 Whatever you may think about Susan Boyle, her rendition of Wild Horses chokes me up every time. 3
Dusty Chalk Posted May 25, 2017 Report Posted May 25, 2017 Well not being fond of the Stones, it was pretty easy for me to give her a fair shake -- yeah, that's pretty...pretty. It has a Tori Amos-ish vibe to it, if you're not familiar with her. Although I'd be surprised if anyone could make "Shattered" listenable. Yes, that's a challenge, set it out there. And Silvertone is such a great album. I remember being frustrated for the longest time until that came out on CD. Going on a Chris Issak binge nao...(Silvertone, second album, Heart Shaped World, San Francisco Days, etc.) 1
recstar24 Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 this is by far the best of Bill Evans I have ever heard...if you can find this at a decent price don't pause and just grab it! 8

swt61 Posted May 26, 2017 Report Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) He's a redneck. He's a racist. In no way do I condone the racial slurs in this song, but if this song doesn't paint a picture of the deep South in the mid 20th century, nothin' does. Edited May 26, 2017 by swt61
recstar24 Posted May 28, 2017 Report Posted May 28, 2017 Beatles Sgt Pepper 2014 mono Holy shit did they do a good job on this reissue. Truly is like listening to this for the first time. 3
Craig Sawyers Posted May 28, 2017 Report Posted May 28, 2017 I have the original mono 1967 first pressing. Bought new when I was but a pre-pubescent lad. 4

Dusty Chalk Posted May 28, 2017 Report Posted May 28, 2017 Max Richter, Sleep (the full 8-hour version, made 9 by tacking on "from Sleep" to the playlist) -- this is the most beautiful and most tranquil music I've ever heard. I've heard new age music described as music "...with all the evil taken out of it." Well, I don't like it when they take all the evil out of it (except for medicinal purposes -- e.g., Steven Halpern's music), then you get static music like Brian Eno's ambient works. In this case, they left just enough in. 2

skullguise Posted May 30, 2017 Report Posted May 30, 2017 I think Closer is even more depressing. Especially Decades......even the keyboard "solo" is depressing...... "We knocked on the door of Hell's darker chamber. Pushed to the limits, we dragged ourselves in...." 2
Hopstretch Posted May 30, 2017 Report Posted May 30, 2017 If we're doing 1979 I think this has to be next ... 4
