skullguise Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 Just got the new Nick Cave on MP3's, need to listen, might throw on my headphones at work, haven't done that in more than a month....
Hopstretch Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 It's very, very dark. As might be expected due to the tragic death of his teenage son during recording. I find it quite hard to listen to. Suspect you may have a similar reaction given your own recent experience. There but for the grace of God go we all ...
TMoney Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 Been binging hard on Krautrock at work this week, in particular Kraftwerk and Neu! For whatever reason, I've had a very productive week. [Insert witty line about German efficiency here] 1
Dusty Chalk Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 I need to pull out my early Kraftwerk (1, 2, Ralf und Florian, and Organisation). 1

Dusty Chalk Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 3 hours ago, TMoney said: Heck, pull out their entire catalog. I listen to their later stuff all the time. To me, there's an abrupt dividing line between their early, Krautrock material, and their later, synthpop material. That dividing line was Autobahn. Side one signified the beginning of their synthpop period, while side 2 was the last remaining dregs of their earlier, more "electro jam band"/friends getting together and just making random tunage phase.
TMoney Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) I've always been a sucker for polished/well-produced stuff, so while I prefer their later catalog I understand where you are coming from. Tonight's listen. Dorothy - ROCKISDEAD. I like it. Edited September 11, 2016 by TMoney 1
Dusty Chalk Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 That's exactly what I like about synthpop. There is something pure about synth tones. 1
MexicanDragon Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 Jack White got fairly emotional starting at the 2 minutes mark during "You've Got Her In Your Pocket", which is one of my fav White Stripes songs. I didn't know this was out, but between this and the new Wilco, I may have to buy some vinyl for the first time in a few months. **BRENT**
swt61 Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) ^ I kind of dig that he uses an old Army issue guitar too. Why I think that's cool, I have no idea. Was listening to this oldie earlier. For you youngsters who thought Kenny Rogers was just a Country singer (Country was actually his 4th (genre). He was in the Jazz trio The Bobby Doyle Three, Then the folk group The New Christy Minstrels, before some real success with The First Edition. Oh yeah, and a few Country hits too. My favorite psychedelic rock song when I was about 10... Edited September 11, 2016 by swt61 2
swt61 Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 Quick quiz...Does anybody recognize the drummer with The First Edition? He went on to have a pretty solid career of his own, though maybe not in music. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 Vaguely, but no. (wanders off, looks it up, returns)
Hopstretch Posted September 11, 2016 Report Posted September 11, 2016 Kaiser Chiefs -- Stay Together Have always enjoyed their cheeky chappie-ness. And respect for blagging a day at the racetrack to shoot the video!
TMoney Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 What are you doing with those hands, Neil?! 3
