Torpedo Posted July 19, 2015 Report Posted July 19, 2015 Wilco - Star Wars New album just released, freely available at their website 1
jvlgato Posted July 19, 2015 Report Posted July 19, 2015 Listened to that yesterday on Tidal, and had a good first impression! Anne's colleague takes her son to the same private school in Chicago as Jeff Tweedy's younger son. Says he's a really nice guy, very down to earth. I keep asking Anne when they are going to set up a small private solo acoustic concert for us, which Jeff does for charity, on occasion. Hasn't happened yet ... 1
Dusty Chalk Posted July 20, 2015 Report Posted July 20, 2015 Leprous, The Congregation -- metal with keyboards and clean vocals, I am in heaven. And some pretty spiffy modern production. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 When it leaked, before it was released, I was all hot and bothered about it, but all the leaks on Youtube were 1.5 speed for some reason -- it was annoying. Don't go there.
roadtonowhere08 Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) I wonder if they do that to get past a copyright sweep? By the way, there is a dropdown box to change the playback speed, so you change it, and the track sounds like it should. It's embedded in the settings (gear) button. It happened to me, and I had the WTF face. So I fiddled around and badda-bing. In your case, play back at half speed, and all would have been well. Edited July 21, 2015 by roadtonowhere08
Dusty Chalk Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 No no, the videos I posted are at the correct speed. I tried speeding up the videos I found ("(full album)" type stuff -- was around 1.5 hours, IIRC), but it sounded disjointed with itself, if that makes any sense. I'd rather not revisit -- it is the stuff of musician nightmares -- but you're welcome to do what you will. As always. I have a feeling it's a little too saccharin cloying for many repeated listenings (~100 or so), but for now (~12 or so), it is appealing to my sweet tooth.
roadtonowhere08 Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 I figured you would not post erroneous links, so I was commenting on the other ones you mentioned before. How odd that you had no luck with the speed change. I had no problems with the ones I encountered. Bummer. I just finished listening to Bilateral. I like a lot of it, but nothing really grabbed me on first pass. I'll give it more time off and on in the coming days to get a better feel for it. I have a feeling you may be right regarding the limited replay value though.
Dusty Chalk Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 I didn't like Bilateral anywhere near as much as The Congregation or even Coal. EDIT: That sequence of Rewind/The Flood/Triumphant just rocks mah soxorz. NO SLEEP 'TIL CAVITY!
roadtonowhere08 Posted July 21, 2015 Report Posted July 21, 2015 Alrighty, I'll queue that up as soon as I can.
Dusty Chalk Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Animals as Leaders/Weightless/The Joy of Motion
Dusty Chalk Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 I still have fucking Leprous stuck on infinite repeat. Triumphant better be the next single, I have it in my playlist twice.
roadtonowhere08 Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 Alright, Dusty. Just finished The Congregation. We agree on a lot, but neither album did much for me in the end. Sorry, man
Dusty Chalk Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 No worries! I suspect I am alone on a lot of things, and I am alright with that. Did you ever listen to In the Nursery's Hindle Wakes -- that one just puzzles me. I have no idea what is that appeals to me so much about that album, but it just stands out in a multiple decades long career of two brothers as far and away their best album. 1
