Dusty Chalk Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 The Joy Formidable, The Big Roar -- after seeing them twice live, finally getting around to listening to the album in its entirety. Quite possibly album of the year for me, although there are a couple of false notes on it (not literally, just...stuff I don't like as much). Rawk. My friend says grunge, but I don't hear it. Think Catherine Wheel at their most cacophonous. Three people should not be able to make so much noise. Bonus points for the occasional unorthodox time signature moment (the beginning of Whirring goes back and forth between 10/4 and 12/4, for example -- I love that, dropping a part of a bar just because it makes more sense the other way).

Dusty Chalk Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 Oh Land (or it might be Ohland) -- really catchy synthpop with a groovy almost triphoppy beat. Pure pop for me.
aardvark baguette Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) lol, wasn't expecting a red hot chili peppers cover at the end... Edited April 6, 2011 by aardvark baguette

Dusty Chalk Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Just finished An Acoustic Night at the Theatre, about to start The Unforgiving, both by Within Temptation. Of course, now that I've said that, I won't have a chance to listen to it until tonight.
