Torpedo Posted December 29, 2024 Report Posted December 29, 2024 Jon Batiste - Beethoven Blues You can find it at most streaming services and Qobuz (I still don't get why Odesli won't link Qobuz pages). TBH I listened to it yesterday and mostly to please a friend who had listened to it and thought it is awesome. I always have certain prevention against jazz or pop albums trying to make something worthy from classical music, especially the one that I find the work of a genius. As much as I tend to dislike pop/jazz/rock played in a classical arrangement, like those abominations of The Beatles for string quartet. This album is something else, yet not fully to my liking. I enjoyed very much a couple of tunes, others were just fine and there were like three that could have been not recorded. If someone listens to it, I'd love reading your thoughts. 3 1
robm321 Posted December 29, 2024 Report Posted December 29, 2024 I couldn't get myself to listen to it, but I'm glad you enjoyed it a bit.
mikeymad Posted December 29, 2024 Report Posted December 29, 2024 50yo album time Autobahn by Kraftwerk (1974) https://album.link/i/726154713 (and yeah I don't know why they don't list QOBUZ as well) Example (THE track): This album is a lot more playful that I remember. I was very used to the later works where they seem more serious. 4
mikeymad Posted December 30, 2024 Report Posted December 30, 2024 50yo pair Here Come The Warm Jets by Brian Eno (1974) https://album.link/i/723783174 Example: His first solo - and it is all over the place - in the best way. He tried most things, and most of them worked. And a good Album Title. A clear contrast to: Country Life by Roxy Music (1974) https://album.link/i/724178403 Example: YouTube wont let me post the original song for some age restriction reason or something. There is no bad lyrics in here.. yeesh Oh well. Overall a fun album. 3
robm321 Posted December 30, 2024 Report Posted December 30, 2024 Nubya Garcia - Odyssey I really liked this album. Inspiring stuff. Very intricate and inovative. It will take some listening effort on your part to get where it's coming from. 1 2
robm321 Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 I forgot to post the very short trailer 1
mikeymad Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 Moontan by Golden Earring (1974) https://album.link/i/81668043 Example: Another band that I know by name and two songs. My bad, I would have had these on my playlists a long time ago. There is a lot for me here. Great jams, 9+minute songs. Classic guitar sound. Now that I know, I shan't forget. 1
mikeymad Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 50yo -- Oh yeah ^^ one is 50yo as well. Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan (1974) https://album.link/i/1696215205 Example: More diverse than other albums, which I liked. But it is a good not great album for me. Of course a handful of killer tunes, but then a few that are a miss for me. It will be in rotation. Well until I listen to Aja again and this one may get lost in the queue. 2
robm321 Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 Aja is a masterpiece. Before you listen to it, make sure to check this out, if you haven't already. 2
mikeymad Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 50yo Phases And Stages by Willie Nelson (1974) https://album.link/i/885243424 Example: I really like this album. Tender and pretty. He was happy to be on Atlantic records. 1 1
robm321 Posted January 3 Report Posted January 3 Mendelssohn - Murray Perahia, Academy Of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Neville Marriner – Piano Concertos Nos 1 & 2 Picked up this LP used. I've always liked Mendelssohn. 2
mikeymad Posted January 3 Report Posted January 3 Still have some 50yo's kicking around in my queue: In Too Much Too Soon by New York Dolls (1974) https://album.link/i/1443895609 Example: Fun rock with early punk vibes. 1
mikeymad Posted January 3 Report Posted January 3 (edited) Streetlights by Bonnie Raitt (1974) https://album.link/i/287366514 Example: Strong Album. I only knew her in the 80's once I found Nick Of Time and the rest. I should have, and still should, explore her 70s work. One of the quintessential voices in my life. Ed: of Note - Drums – Stephen Gadd... :} Edited January 3 by mikeymad 2

I've always liked Mendelssohn. This. (boring stereo version) Murry is one of my favs for Mozart. This whole combo works really well for me for the 2nd Concerto. I am not sure I am a real fan of the first just as a work, nothing against this version. Thanks rob. 1
mikeymad Posted Monday at 09:28 PM Report Posted Monday at 09:28 PM Kimono My House by Sparks (1974) https://album.link/i/1443750483 Example: More fun than I was expecting, and really good. 4
mikeymad Posted Tuesday at 03:45 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 03:45 AM Fire by Ohio Players (1974) https://album.link/i/1434907387 Example: The title track is the star of the show, but once I found 'What the Hell' (track 7), I was entranced. Not just by the album cover. And yup it was a gatefold. 2
Torpedo Posted Wednesday at 06:11 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:11 PM I like her a lot more on her own than with the epileptic drummer. 2
