swt61 Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 Pedal steel guitar is one of my favorite instruments. I wish it were more prevalent in newer Country music. 1
mikeymad Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 Catching up on some early work before some deep dive into current works. One by TesseracT (2011) https://album.link/i/1045570078 and the EP: Perspective by TesseracT (2012) https://album.link/i/1060441842 Just one Example: Very nice work - a little samey. But great playing and overall sound. With 5 studio albums, I will probably get around to them all.
mikeymad Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 Altered State by TesseracT (2013) https://album.link/us/i/1045640477 Example: Second full Studio Album - I really didn't expect the change in the vocalist. I really liked this album - Pretty much a single continuous 50+ minute track. I know that Ashe O'Hara does not last beyond this album, but works well for me.
mikeymad Posted March 21 Report Posted March 21 Tell Mama by Etta James (1968) https://album.link/i/1371791759 Example: Just a few tracks that were not great for me. But the rest of the album kicks ass (like the example). Was over so fast that I had to pull this. At Last! by Etta James (1961) https://album.link/i/1440838775 Example: Everyone knows the title track... Much more the classical and strings versions, but man does it highlight her singing. 6
mikeymad Posted March 22 Report Posted March 22 Eye In The Sky by The Alan Parsons Project (1982) https://album.link/i/1205670750 Example: I was going to post Mammagamma or Old and Wise. But the title track is just so good. Like most of Alan's albums, they are just so good to listen to. And for something different. Spaces by Yosi Horikawa (2019) https://album.link/i/1463826014 Example: If you like a lot of looping of natural sounds. Tosi is the ticket. I am not sure how it got into my queue, but it really gave me an Art of Noise vibe - and that is a very good thing. 5

I listened to, At Last, today. Your fault, Steve. 1
Torpedo Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 I listened the McBride-Meyers past Saturday and found it really enjoyable. Deserving some repeating 2
TMoney Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 Carl "Blue Suede Shoes" Perkins is in the studio to record "Matchbox," his other great hit. Arriving early to the studio to watch him record is the man in black, Johnny Cash. Also around is "the killer," Jerry Lee Lewis, Sun records' new piano player who hasn't had any of his hits released yet. Driving past, 21 year old Elvis sees the armada of Cadillacs parked at Sun records and stops in to see what is going on. A lot of this is just noodling around and the recording isn't great, but this one of the most impressive collaborations of early rock superstars that we have. The "Million Dollar Quartet," indeed. "Don't be Cruel" and "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" are real highlights. Sad that by the time they started to get back together Elvis had already passed on. 4
mikeymad Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 All My Friends by Aoife O'Donovan (2024) https://album.link/i/1716406615 Example: This was released a few days ago, I finally got a chance to give it a good listen. I have always appreciated Aoife's inflections and attack on notes. -- 2
mikeymad Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 I have heard Chris Thile (how ever you say that) say it enough, that I think I could come close. --- ˈiːfʲə
Voltron Posted March 29 Author Report Posted March 29 I only know because of a TV show called the Woman in the Wall. Ee-fah. 😂 And I don't know how Chris pronounces his last name -- been a mystery for years... 1 1
mikeymad Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Beethoven for Three: Symphony No. 4 and Op. 97 "Archduke" by Yo-Yo Ma (2024) https://album.link/i/1725363052 Example: I didn't even know these existed until today - this was released last weekish, and two others were released in 2022. Only 4 symphony's so far. I hope that they can complete the flight. I thought they might have recorded in the space pictured. - But no - in an equally cool building - the EMPAC (Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center). 1 2
Grahame Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Meanwhile ... swt61 Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 No shit! All this time I thought they were singing "Hey, you, get off of McCloud." 2
skullguise Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Karen screws up lyrics so often we got a dish towel that says, "I hate when I'm singing a song and the artist gets the lyrics wrong" 😄 Then there's this commercial: 3
