mikeymad Posted August 30, 2023 Report Posted August 30, 2023 säje säje 2023 https://album.link/i/1698400328 Example: I didn't know I needed this this morning. But I so did. I might be back on a jazz vocal kick.. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted August 31, 2023 Report Posted August 31, 2023 I've been on a First Wave of Post-Hardcore kick lately. Sunny Day Real Estate, Diary Girls Against Boys, (pretty much whatever hits my fancy, will probably end up listening to the entire discog, including EPs) Fugazi's probably next
TMoney Posted August 31, 2023 Report Posted August 31, 2023 Alvvays - Blue Rev. I like these people! This feels like indie pop with a touch of, dare I say, shoe-gaze? How could I say no? Planning on going through their entire back catalog. 1
robm321 Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 ^ I'm listening to this too because of your other post. How could anyone not like this? I'll be listening to the rest of their stuff too. Had to look up shoe-gaze, but I'd say you're right about that. 1
Torpedo Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 Enjoying this concert which I wish had been able to attend live 4
Dusty Chalk Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 https://album.link/v7bntbzrkbv2k A most unsearchable name (The Path by Light), but kinda awesome! Mostly orchestral (not "symphonic"), mostly instrumental progressive music. Recommended to fans of Mike Oldfield, Philip Glass, pastoral classical music.
mikeymad Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 ^^ intersting - sampled a few tracks, didn't catch me to start with, but intrested to check it out futher. Catching up.. Comin' Home Baby Mel Tormé 1962 https://album.link/i/59401055 Example: A fun Album by Mel, with the example being a highlight. Need to have some more Mel in my world. Samara Joy Samara Joy 2021 https://album.link/i/1616970429 Example: Such a lovely voice with dynamics and power. Very well recorded set of mostly standards. Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition Linkin Park 2023 https://album.link/i/1668484895 Example: Worthy of revisiting. A well recorded album that is layered really well and is able to hit hard when it wants to. I didn't need all the live versions, but I enjoyed listening to the album again. There are a few other things, but those are some highlights. 5
HiWire Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 Sally Shapiro - Rent (Pet Shop Boys cover) From Italians Do It Better, Johnny Jewel of the Chromatics' label 1

HiWire Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 (edited) Great version! I've never heard of Sally Shapiro... turns out it is the name of a Swedish duo, Johan Agebjörn and a reclusive unnamed vocalist. They announced the end of their group in 2016, then secretly worked on more music. I'm going back to check on their synthpop italo-disco albums. Disco Romance Edited September 7, 2023 by HiWire 1
mikeymad Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 Pathways Ezra Glatt 2023 https://album.link/i/1676302508 Example: Good freshman effort from Ezra. It has an Elliott Smith feel. I will be interested in seeing if their writing continues to grow.
mikeymad Posted September 10, 2023 Report Posted September 10, 2023 Sextet Carla Bley 1987 https://album.link/i/1443515986 Example: I really did think that I posted this before. But I couldn't find it. But it is something that should be posted. I didn't know much about Carla's work before this. A great set and this track is just so pretty. 2

Oh, but I think you are: she wrote all the songs on Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports.
TMoney Posted September 11, 2023 Report Posted September 11, 2023 New Olivia Rodrigo. Yes, she has the full weight of the music-marketing-industrial complex behind her, but for some reason I find myself cheering for this girl. Pretty solid sophomore effort, I say. The rocker tracks are very fun. 1

mikeymad Posted September 14, 2023 Report Posted September 14, 2023 You're the One Rhiannon Giddens 2023 https://album.link/i/1683236541 Example: Continually impressed with Rhiannon. Her ability to adapt to different styles and to do them all so well is amazing to me. This is an album full of solid songs. Each one has purpose and grounding. They were not just going into the studio and see what happens. It is choreographed and executed at a high level. 5
robm321 Posted September 14, 2023 Report Posted September 14, 2023 (edited) This could be a 70s album sung by a 30-40 year old, but it's a 2023 album sung by a 20 something with rich lyrics and a sweet voice. A little Orbison Sounding. Edited September 14, 2023 by robm321 6
mikeymad Posted September 14, 2023 Report Posted September 14, 2023 Heartbeat City (2016 Remaster) The Cars 1984 https://album.link/i/1088528654 Example: So I think in the 80s I was really listening to this album, but I was staring at the Candy-O Album Cover (so that stuck in my head). I really liked almost all of these songs. Even found myself singing along to Drive. 4
mikeymad Posted September 14, 2023 Report Posted September 14, 2023 I missed this last week.. RIP Gary (Sept 4th) The Dream Weaver Gary Wright 1975 https://album.link/i/321974937 Example: Go listen to Dream Weaver as well. Such a good album of tunes of their time. RIP Gary - Dream Weaving in the sky... 2 1
