mikeymad Posted December 25, 2022 Report Posted December 25, 2022 Holidays Around the World Pentatonix 2022 https://album.link/i/1645380889 Example: I thought that they ran out of Christmas albums. I was wrong, and I am happy about it. Not all a cappella songs.
mikeymad Posted December 25, 2022 Report Posted December 25, 2022 50yo Superfly Curtis Mayfield 1972 https://album.link/i/1048472205 Example: This is a killer set of Curtis cuts for your cool Christmas. 5
Torpedo Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 If you like jazz, you enjoy Ella Fitzgerald and want to have some fun, this is a must: Just let her warm up. It's a pity the recording sound quality is not stellar. 3 1
mikeymad Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 ^ I cannot read that label very well. But I may have a version on Tidal to follow-along with. Conductor and Orchestra?
jose Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 It almost sounds ridiculous nowadays but in my neighborhood, these guys and Michael Jackson were the "hottest" 2

mikeymad Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 50yo Young, Gifted and Black Aretha Franklin 1972 https://album.link/i/934216863 Example: Just a good album. 6
Torpedo Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 This is one of those things that some people say that is jazz, or nu.jazz... whatever. I had to listen to it despite I didn't like their previous output, for it receiving accolades and making many "best of" lists. The Comet is Coming - Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam If you like Ornette Coleman and such you might enjoy it. 2
mikeymad Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 (edited) ^^ enjoyed. 50yo Paul Simon Paul Simon 1972 https://album.link/i/380588824 Example: Well, not a great album. I really like Example track or course, but pretty thin beyond that. It does not seem that he found his solo voice until later on. Edited December 28, 2022 by mikeymad 3
Torpedo Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Vadim Neselovskyi - Odesa Another jazz album that made the top 2022 lists and that I hadn't listened to. To me a lot more enjoyable than TCIC's one. This one is not classic jazz by any means, it's rather lyrical and has very interesting moments. The pianist is virtuosoborderline. 4
robm321 Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Not a fan of TCIC after listening to Hyper... It just sounds like techno. I guess because they sample a sax, that makes it jazz? 1 1
mikeymad Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 A Southern Gothic Adia Victoria 2021 https://album.link/i/1578879750 Example: Really enjoyed this album from Adia (new to me). Very well recorded and her signing techniques are top notch. I will have to listen again for content, and check out her other works. 2
mikeymad Posted December 29, 2022 Report Posted December 29, 2022 Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn Béla Fleck, Abigail Washburn 2014 https://album.link/i/1440952694 Example: Lovely blend of clawhammer and bluegrass styles, along with Abigail's singing. 5
mikeymad Posted December 29, 2022 Report Posted December 29, 2022 The Secret Piano Alexis Ffrench 2009 https://album.link/i/342515423 Example: Relaxing piano works for the end of the day. Man I listened to a lot of albums today. Many I didn't post because they were not worthy. But I liked Alexis' album, and also listened to his most recent stuff as well. This is a mood thing for me, and I was in the mood. 1

Torpedo Posted December 29, 2022 Report Posted December 29, 2022 IMHO and for my taste, this is a more interesting evolution of jazz 2 1

Now: Carte Blanche Jean-Yves Thibaudet 2021 https://album.link/i/1578540196 Example: 24 tracks in an hour 20! Lots of playing. Example is one of the fast works. I really appreciated the collection of pieces that I didn't know that well. Some I will explore a bit more. Good recording and performance. Don't know if I have heard Jean-Yves before or not but will check out catalog. Edit: Oh yeah, I remember looking like this (1990) What's up with everyone getting older? Glad I don't Edited December 29, 2022 by mikeymad 1 1

Serious talent and very expressive. 1
mikeymad Posted December 30, 2022 Report Posted December 30, 2022 Peter Gabriel: Secret World Live (1994) Apparently it's that time a year again when I have to watch this concert... Always breaths life into me. 2
