TMoney Posted October 18, 2022 Report Posted October 18, 2022 FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE - Brian Eno New Brian Eno. It is exactly as ethereal, relaxing, and melancholy as you would expect from the man! 4 1
skullguise Posted October 18, 2022 Report Posted October 18, 2022 ^^ I heard he does vocals on that, true?
rod Posted October 19, 2022 Report Posted October 19, 2022 Bought this back in ‘77 when it was released, heard Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten on BBC radio 3 and had to buy it.Usual top quality ECM pressing and recording 4 1

It is correct, but if I were to draw a line between his most ambient works on one end and those first three albums on the other, with Nerve Net closer to the latter, then FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE is partway again between Nerve Net and the ambient works, maybe even much closer to the ambient works, but without the ...uh... stasis? stagnancy? of things like Thursday Afternoon. I think of his ambient works as the epitome of "music with all the evil taken out", and this is pastoral but with some evil still left tastefully in.
skullguise Posted October 19, 2022 Report Posted October 19, 2022 (edited) Good thoughts Dusty, and I tend to agree; started listening last night.....it's not Tiger Mountain or Warm Jets by any means 😄 I've enjoyed it so far though! Edited October 19, 2022 by skullguise 1
mikeymad Posted October 20, 2022 Report Posted October 20, 2022 PORTALS TesseracT 2021 https://album.link/i/1569244326 Example: This Prog Metal album really got into me. All recorded live, and they are not shy to go over 10 minutes for a song. Power cords, transitions that work, great vocals, and almost 2 hours of some killer tracks (to me). Goes into the rotation. 2 1
rod Posted October 20, 2022 Report Posted October 20, 2022 Where does the time go, bought this 47 years ago. 2
mikeymad Posted October 20, 2022 Report Posted October 20, 2022 Skylarking XTC 1986 https://album.link/i/1440889477 Example: So many songs I could post so I just gave the opener. It has been a while since I had listened to this 80s classic. But I see it as timeless. 2
TMoney Posted October 21, 2022 Report Posted October 21, 2022 Crybaby - Tegan and Sara I'm late to the party on these two, but I like what I hear. Really pleasant listen. 2
skullguise Posted October 21, 2022 Report Posted October 21, 2022 ^^ Listened to some of this last night, agreed. For me, needed some lighter but somewhat sophisticated pop, and another 80's/90's group (person) is at it again. 4

mikeymad Posted October 22, 2022 Report Posted October 22, 2022 "Feel Flows" The Sunflower & Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971 (Super Deluxe) The Beach Boys 2021 https://album.link/i/1570363167 Example: Now, I have not listened to the entire 6.5 hours of material here (yet). But I am entirely captivated by this monster (133 track) collection. The vocal layering and delicate nature of a lot of the tracks is very appealing. I can easily see this as being my go to for BB in the future. Just put it on shuffle and listen for as long as I like. Of course, Pet Sounds, will always be played regardless. 2
Hopstretch Posted October 22, 2022 Report Posted October 22, 2022 This came out nearly 40 years ago. Good lord. 4
Dusty Chalk Posted October 22, 2022 Report Posted October 22, 2022 Or my personal favourite: ...where the second half just devolves into this epic piano solo (Jools Holland!) followed by a tasty tasty ensemble instrumental section for the finish. 2

The boogie woogie piano is the only regrettable thing on that album.

mikeymad Posted October 23, 2022 Report Posted October 23, 2022 Midnights (3am Edition) Taylor Swift 2022 https://album.link/i/1650841512 Example: Seeing what the kids are making these days (kids being long established artists in their 30s). Overall a good listen. Lots of talk-singing and some good singer songwriter moments throughout the album. Kids got some talent. 1
mikeymad Posted October 23, 2022 Report Posted October 23, 2022 Sound Affects (Deluxe Edition) The Jam 1980 https://album.link/i/1445856291 Example: Some Sunday morning Jams with The Jam. I liked this penultimate album, it has a nice mix of raw stuff along with more produced stuff, which I am sure they got flack for at the time. but not: (I know the internet is over this one) 1
jose Posted October 23, 2022 Report Posted October 23, 2022 Bob Dylan Hard Rain "...Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm" 1
