Dusty Chalk Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 Been listening to a lot of Airbag recently. Bunch of best-era (WYWH, Animals) Pink Floyd obsessives married Porcupine Tree. Never enough of this stuff. I mean that synthesizer solo is a straight homage to Shine On You Crazy Diamond part 1, and the opening verse/chorus sounds like Porcupine Tree. 2
Kattefjaes Posted June 7, 2018 Report Posted June 7, 2018 @mikeymad - that's seriously.. tasteful. Sounds like a Tarantino soundtrack waiting to happen. It's really interesting how the band members try not to step on each others' toes, impressive intra-band civility. I don't know what I feel about it, but I couldn't stop listening, anyway. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted June 8, 2018 Report Posted June 8, 2018 Pitch Black, Ape to Angel http://music.pitchblack.co.nz/album/ape-to-angel groovy, downtempo electronica -- if you listen to Knucks's show, you will definitely have heard Pitch Black already, as that's where I learned of them. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted June 12, 2018 Report Posted June 12, 2018 So first I listened to this playlist, then I listened to Spotify Radio that followed, and it was funny, it deteriorated into King Crimson and covers of King Crimson, so all prog leads to King Crimson. 1
recstar24 Posted June 14, 2018 Report Posted June 14, 2018 Wilco - Ghost is Born what a great album, dare I say I prefer it over yankee hotel foxtrot 3
Hopstretch Posted June 14, 2018 Report Posted June 14, 2018 It is great! Not sure I'm with you on the latter part, but it's a judgement call ...
recstar24 Posted June 14, 2018 Report Posted June 14, 2018 Could also be that the ghost is born is legit great sound quality. Pallas pressed and Kevin Gray cut, the thing has screaming dynamics. My YHF is whatever digitally sourced reissue from a few years ago
Dusty Chalk Posted June 14, 2018 Report Posted June 14, 2018 This is great work/study music -- a little more ...anxious than the sort of thing that Knucks plays, but otherwise similar genre: https://asc77.bandcamp.com/album/artefacts-of-rotation

recstar24 Posted June 17, 2018 Report Posted June 17, 2018 Gilliab Welch Harrow and the Harvest on vinyl. Not really into the whole folk/minimal thing but got this on recommendation and it’s fantastic. Sound quality is exquisite - Gillian essentially started up her on label specifically to cut and master the lacquer directly from the analog tape to her specifications, it’s incredible. 3
HiWire Posted June 17, 2018 Report Posted June 17, 2018 (edited) Yeah Yeah Yeahs – It's Blitz! I haven't listened to this one for a while... this is one of the rare occasions where the music critics and I agree (it made almost all the Best Albums of the Year lists when it was released). A gorgeous, exciting listen with impressive polish throughout. Just epic. Edited June 17, 2018 by HiWire 1
