EdipisReks1 Posted February 20, 2017 Report Posted February 20, 2017 I finally got around to downloading the digital copies of the definitive versions of the NIN's Broken, The Fragile, and TDS. I don't know when I'll have the vinyl (along with The Fragile Deviation I), but the digital versions are the shit. 1
aardvark baguette Posted February 20, 2017 Report Posted February 20, 2017 (edited) ^ i think they raised the gain on broken, but thats only based on about a 10 second evaluation. ryan adams live at carnegie hall Edited February 20, 2017 by aardvark baguette
EdipisReks1 Posted February 20, 2017 Report Posted February 20, 2017 Quote ^ i think they raised the gain on broken I think you are right, but it doesn't sound compressed, to me. Broken was always a bit quiet compared to TDS, so I think they just made it match the later stuff, which is understandable.
Aura Posted February 20, 2017 Report Posted February 20, 2017 I don't know if anyone else here is into SBTRKT but the primary vocalist he's worked with for years released a new solo album. Good as expected, so far. Sampha - Process 1
HiWire Posted February 21, 2017 Report Posted February 21, 2017 Pizzicato Five – The Sound of Music 4
Dusty Chalk Posted February 21, 2017 Report Posted February 21, 2017 Just shoved a day's worth of Larry Coryell into my Tidal queue. I don't like everything he does, but when I do like it, I love it. Of the top 6 albums that AMG listed, they were missing two (Monk, 'Trane, Miles & Me and one with Emily Remler, Together). 2

Hopstretch Posted February 21, 2017 Report Posted February 21, 2017 Grails -- Chalice Hymnal Entirely Dusty's fault. 1

It was an odd and fun show - I feel like a remember there being a dancing bear with a snare drum. I have been listening to this. I don't really like anything else Fugazi did, but this EP is just about perfect. 3
aardvark baguette Posted February 24, 2017 Report Posted February 24, 2017 cowboy junkies - trinity sessions (analogue productions) 1
HiWire Posted February 25, 2017 Report Posted February 25, 2017 I'll pick up the new Trinity Sessions SACD as soon as it's available here. St. Germain – Tourist Almost ludicrously overexposed at your nearest book store/coffee shop/clothing retailer/etc., but a great album nonetheless. 2
Torpedo Posted February 25, 2017 Report Posted February 25, 2017 I'm listening to the Snarky Puppy with the Metropole Orkest that Dusty mentioned elsewhere in this thread or another one. Recorded in 2015 I hadn't heard of them before. Thanks, Dusty. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted February 25, 2017 Report Posted February 25, 2017 Oh shit, you found the whole concert? Nice. I might have to watch that myself. And you're welcome. (I mentioned it in the live music thread.) You're in for a treat. I definiitely think they'll be your thing. Sorry you hadn't heard of them before now, but glad that's sorted. They have lots more videos on YouTube -- I think the entire Family Dinner album/DVD (lots of guest vocalists, my introduction to their signature jazz/R&B style) is on there, as well as their We Like It Here DVD. They like to record everything live. So many of those are what ended up on albums (including much of Sylva). 1
Torpedo Posted February 25, 2017 Report Posted February 25, 2017 They're great, they blend with the orchestra in a way that very few jazz ensembles achieve. Their sound is solid and the music has that jazzy groove that I miss in many "fusion" bands. I must investigate them further, definitely 1

I'm listening to that Hendrix. Awesome. Before I've been listening to Dusty's recommendation of Snarky Puppy's "Family Dinner" which is great, the full album on videos is up at Youtube 1
