Aimless1 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Salvatore Accardo "Vivaldi - The Four Seasons" One of my favorite albums as well as a reference recording for me. Listening with the Opus 21 and I'm not disappointed. 1
Voltron Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) The James Farm album is going to blow us all away. Next couple of months, latest. I hope. They have a show in Portland, OR in late February and if they are not playing around here in that time frame, I think Claire and I might go. Maybe meet my robot bro, Smegs. Voltron Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Listen to their stuff on the the myspace page, even though it will not give you the full effect.
blessingx Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) I don't remember a set of eyes that intense in James Farm. Edited February 7, 2015 by blessingx
Voltron Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 I don't remember a set of eyes that intense in James Farm. He plays piano and was not facing us. You weren't ready for the intensity of James Farm in general, so I don't think you would have caught that spark. But I do like The Afrobilly Sessions. Now playing: Mavis Staples -- You Are Not Alone Highly buzzed and listening to the EC BA AD1 on the RS-1 and HP-2, I have to say this album sounds divine.
Aura Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Mavis Staples -- You Are Not Alone Highly buzzed and listening to the EC BA AD1 on the RS-1 and HP-2, I have to say this album sounds divine. Got that album a few days back myself, still have to listen. Thrice - The Illusion of Safety First listen to anything from Thrice, ever. I like it so far. More punk influence in this one that I was expecting. I thought they were more progressive rock-like. No matter.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Enemy of the Sun, Caedium -- quite easily album of the week for me. Nicely complex metal without being "math metal", and the vocals aren't laughably bad.
Voltron Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Esperanza Spalding - Chamber Music Society This^
Dusty Chalk Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Little Boots, Hands -- synthpop on the order of Goldfrapp, Kylie, et al. Quite retro and very pop, but with some strong songwriting underneath: Little Boots - Stuck on Repeat
Voltron Posted January 5, 2011 Author Report Posted January 5, 2011 This thread should be made a Sticky. Just sayin' Ludovico Einaudi - Nightbook
Torpedo Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Godspeed You Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O
Dusty Chalk Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Stuck. And the correct terminology is "Someone should stick this thread." Me: Little Boots/Gary Numan collaboration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWL6gsUoNFw, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEQW4lnonno, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EETEv1Xt4WY, and a bonus, (w/just Gary Numan).

Dusty Chalk Posted January 6, 2011 Report Posted January 6, 2011 Amplifier, The Octopus -- contemporary prog -- bombastic (in the Beatles/Flaming Lips way, not in the Mahler way), a little all-over-the-place...I like!
