Knuckledragger Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 Dang. I got distracted with the arrival of the plow guy and forgot the joke I wanted to use with this. "Gee, I didn't know Single Power made engagement rings."
acidbasement Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Gay slur in lyrics disqualifies Dire Straits hit from Canadian radio play - The Globe and Mail I'm pissed off about this. This song was the first one I ever played air-guitar to at 6 or 7 years old, and it probably was a big influence in my calling to musicianship.
Knuckledragger Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 Oof. They'd better ban Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant as well, then.
Knuckledragger Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 Due to the fact that amount of material that arrives via RSS is vastly greater than the number of posts I can make in a day, I'm going to begin including 3+ images per Slow Post. Slightly Less Slow Forum?
Tyll Hertsens Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I don't much care how you do it, Knucks, just keep bringing it. This is one of my favorite threads on teh intertubes. Thanks, dude.

There is already an edited version of the song out there which has those lines removed. It was even on the HDCD best of release...

Sure, but is that a reason to ban the original? I think the trouble I have with this is that the word is banned without respect to the context of the song's lyrics. I mean, the song ridicules people who use the word. Banning it seems to me to be a step in the direction of ignoring intolerance rather than fighting against it.
spritzer Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Hasn't this been tried time and time again in the US because of UK lyrics using "fag" meaning a cigarette? PC utterly missing the point as usual...
Knuckledragger Posted January 13, 2011 Author Report Posted January 13, 2011 ...at least that cleaned up that horribly offensive book by that awful Mr. Twain. </sarcasm>
manaox2 Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 All this in the time where its PC enough for the topic of child molestation, comes with free candy to come on Fox during prime time on Sunday as comedy. (Bob's burgers)
Knuckledragger Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 Relevant. For some reason, this ad campaign never caught on. This guy looks like a hack. Check out the doofy hat.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Dude, it's the era. Before Gilligan's Island, people associated that hat with...I don't know, palm beaches, tennis, golf, etc. EDIT: Um...he's some kind of famous non-doofy director or actor or something, isn't he? @ self.
mypasswordis Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Damn Queen Latifah looking fine there!
Knuckledragger Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 ^^ I was being too deadpan WRT Kurosawa, I guess.
