Wmcmanus Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 I know this is old news, but I just stumbled across it and it make be chuckle. Just some random shit, like everything in this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnWBbqOBBSM&feature=related
Knuckledragger Posted May 31, 2012 Author Report Posted May 31, 2012 Holy crap! Is that really Billy Gibbons on the right? I'm pretty sure that's not Billy. Frank Beard and Dusty Hill were in a band together before they met him. I thought it had a different name than ZZ Top, but I'm not sure.
swt61 Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 It must have had a different name, as Billy founded ZZ Top.
Dusty Chalk Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 What's up with West Virginia? Also, very cool. Well, not to anyone who has been affected, but from a purely scientific perspective...nice data representation.
roadtonowhere08 Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) That is AWESOME, blessingx! I am definitely using that next year in my class. Thanks Dusty, the Appalachians are pretty dominant in that area. Not that tornadoes are stopped dead in their tracks by mountains (because many have tracked into the southern Appalachians), the area around WV disrupts the ingredients necessary for tornado formation. grawk Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 god decided WV had enough troubles without tornados.

That and tornados are repelled by banjo music. Edited June 1, 2012 by Augsburger

Wmcmanus Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 In that region, tornados tend to follow the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah River, which as we all know, have only marginal (mostly folklore) associations with West Virginia and would seem to more appropriately describe western Virginia.
nikongod Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 Since we were talking about cool VW's the other week, I see a bug with semaphore turn signals. Easily one of the most badass things ever invented. Check it out here:
Torpedo Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 LOLz, looks like a CT scan or MRI device. Never saw one with the cover removed.
Salt Peanuts Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 LOLz, looks like a CT scan or MRI device. Never saw one with the cover removed. Probably a CT scan since there's a sign for "CT PROCEDURE" on the wall to the left.
Torpedo Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 ^Good catch, didn't pay attention to that sign
kevin gilmore Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) A cat scanner. The whole inside section rotates about 2 rps. MRI are just giant superconducting magnet. Nothing inside but a coil of wire and lots of liquid helium. There is a reason these things are over $2M Upper left with the big high voltage lead is the xray tube. Lower right with the 5 fans is the detector module. upper right with the warning sign is the xray power supply, typically 60kv at about 500ma. Edited June 2, 2012 by kevin gilmore
