Voltron Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 You roll large 24/7 Greg. Happy Thanksgiving Cabernet. I meant to mention the bottle came from the Whale Cooler at City Beer Store. This could be a bad habit.
raffy Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 JP's delayed birthday gift: Pappy Van Winkle Eclipse from 2008. Goddamn this is a perfect beer. Wow that does sound awesome Al. Did you get this from City Beer recently or back in 2008?
The Monkey Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Four Roses private special barrel single batch, etc.
morphsci Posted November 23, 2011 Author Report Posted November 23, 2011 Round 1: Nardini > Montenegro = Nonino Round 2: China Martini > Averna > Ramazzotti
shellylh Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Interesting science Jim! I had a half a glass of crappy wine out at dinner.
emelius Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 New Belgium Snow Day... jealous of the PVW 50/50...nice:)...
luvdunhill Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Jim, can you also comment on the similarities if they exist? I'm other words, are any near equivalents? Me just killed the bottle of Torino. Shelly, any further thoughts on the Vya sweet vermouth? (I know it's likely been a while)
shellylh Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 I haven't had any in a week plus but I love the Vya sweet vermouth. It kinda reminds me a bit of spiced apple cider in a way but that's what makes me like it so much. However, I am not so sure I like the Torino as much as I thought I did. I might go back to Carpano for whiskey based drinks like Manhattans, etc and keep another sweet vermouth (like Vya) for other cocktails. Once I am back in the swing of things, I am going to pick up some Perucchi vermouths (they carry them at Houston Wine Merchant).
luvdunhill Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 I really like the Vya Extra Dry. I going to see if I can find a smaller bottle of the Vya sweet and also a bottle of Bonal tomorrow
Aura Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 My god Al, I could not be more jealous of PVW 50/50. Opened my first Bruery Black Tuesday 2011 with my friend Dan tonight. Trying to polish off what he could not finish, which is a blessing of course.
Voltron Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) The PVW was really sweet, as in awsum. City Beer started a specialty cooler of aged and rare beers for consumption on premises, not take away. Five or six other 50/50s, from 2008 to 2010, also available. Now chillin in Mayberry with a Stillwater Saison Darkly. Edited November 23, 2011 by Voltron
Voltron Posted November 23, 2011 Report Posted November 23, 2011 Four Roses Eclipse 2010 in Mayberry. Very different and very tasty but not the equal of the PVW.
