shellylh Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 (edited) how does it age? Very well IMO. Unfortunately, I haven't found any recently so I won't be able to compare it directly until then. Edited May 31, 2011 by shellylh
shellylh Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 A Blackthorn Cocktail (this one from "Vintage" and quite different from the Anvil-Irish Blackthorn). Not really sure how I feel about this drink yet. 2 oz Old Raj gin 3/4 oz Dubonnet Rouge 3/4 oz Schwarzwalder Kirschwasser
shellylh Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 (edited) Poured out the Blackthorn and made myself a Boulevardier: 3/2 oz Rare Breed Wild Turkey (barrel proof) bourbon 1 oz Campari 1 oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth Mmmmm much better. Edited May 31, 2011 by shellylh
Voltron Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 (edited) I guess you figured out how you felt about the Blackthorn after all. I made a Final Word with 1.5oz each of Rendezvous Rye, Yellow Chartreuse and lemon juice, and 1oz of Maraschino. Edited May 31, 2011 by Voltron
Augsburger Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Well the blackthorn sounded nice, perhaps the maraschino cherry would have made the difference?
Dusty Chalk Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Les Trois Mousquetaires...something -- doppelbock? I forget, has kind of a peach-ish label. Very, very good. EDIT: Yes, the unfiltered doppelbock.
shellylh Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Well the blackthorn sounded nice, perhaps the maraschino cherry would have made the difference? That must have been the problem. I think it is just a tad too warm here to drink Black Forest brandy this time of year.

Voltron Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) Yay, Stork Club! Dusty Chalk Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 A French malbec. It was okay. I drank the whole bottle. Whoops. Yes, it was one of those sufficiently advanced technology bottles that got better the more you drank from it.
morphsci Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 That is a nice haul on the cocktail reference library Shelly. The FBI fizz looks good. I will give it a try tonight. I also like the look of the romance Al. That will be the second for tonight. Yay for Head-case cocktails!
Voltron Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I liked the FBI Fizz and the Romance was really tasty. Nice and complex but not high alcohol for those few times that you might not want a big buzz.
Absorbine_Sr Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Bombay and Dolin martini. On the deck. Fuck work.
Voltron Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Bombay and Dolin martini. On the deck. Fuck work. Not fair! I want to have a drink and say fuck work too, but I am in court right now! Although our current witness is a gin drinker, the judge is a whiskey drinker and probably wouldn't appreciate a nice stirred martini. :/
