Fitz Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) A rye "cocktail" suggested by Dan in chat. Coat glass with absinthe, add 3oz rye and 3 dashes of Peychaud's bitters. I used St. George and Rittenhouse 25. Is good. EDIT: Dan's trying to call it a sazerac. No sugar or lemon, nuh-un. Edited November 1, 2011 by Fitz
shellylh Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 That sounds good Fitz (although it does sound quite similar to a Sazerac) - St. George and Rittenhouse 25 are both excellent! All that talk of bourbon made me thirsty for moar. Me and and my friend Pappy:
Fitz Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 That sounds good Fitz (although it does sound quite similar to a Sazerac) - St. George and Rittenhouse 25 are both excellent! Yar, Dan's backed down to calling it a simplified sazerac. It's still quite tasty, if noticeably different due to the absence of the lemon. Dunno how much difference the sugar makes.
emelius Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Stillwater A Saison Darkly...finally found one w/o having to trade...quite like it...a nice mix of ingredients...only time that I can recall having a Saison out of a 12oz bottle...inexpensive...
shellylh Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 /\/\ trick or treat.. Pesky teenage+ers, didn't I say that we were closed?

Also a negroni. Man, I really prefer that drink the way I made it tonight, with bulldog, dolin blanc, and the obligatory Campari. I just eyeballed the ratios for both. Now diet mt dew in preparation for bed.
emelius Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 TOØL Black Ball Porter...bought on suggestion by the store owner...normally, I don't do that, but the store was one of the highest rated in the world...stupid Chicago... anywho, it worked out...good, dry chocolate-y porter...worth it...

mikeymad Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Yes good. Yes hard to find So I did a quick search just to see what is out there. (long gone are the days I was buying it for $95 at costco) but found this interesting.... USED??... WTF is that? is that like pre chewed food? kidney filtered and re-sealed...
Voltron Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 The new run will be coming out this Fall sometime, so you should just keep your eyes out for stock when it hits. It usually doesn't last too long, but there should be some options in the Chicagoland area.
shellylh Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) Pre-sipped and spit back? I think you can still find it for around $100 at certain times of the year. A lot of places seem to be out right now. Cannot remember when these tend to come out. Edit: Al just answered: Fall. Edited November 1, 2011 by shellylh
jvlgato Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the tip! The only time I tried it was in my pre-HC days, I was into Scotches and beers, but didn't know bourbon yet. I was hanging out with a buddy in Atlanta, chatting about liquor (what else?) and the topic turned to bourbon. He mentioned Pappy and said how awesome it was, let's go get some. We drove to his local liquor store, picked up a bottle for a bit over $100, like it was nothing, and drank a few glasses that night. I just figured you could run to your local store and pick it up whenever you wanted. I've never seen a bottle since. I'll keep my eyes wide open this fall ... Oh, and the other thing I wonder about is recycled (used?) toilet paper. I'm always wary of that ... Edited November 1, 2011 by jvlgato
grawk Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 I had one of these in chat with Fitz, though mine was Vintage 21 rye and Lucid. One of these, but with sazerac instead of vintage 21
