luvdunhill Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I definitely like the bitter element, but in its place. I wonder about half PeM and half Carpano would be like? Hm
cetoole Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Chateau ste michelle indian wells cabernet sauvignon 2008. Its starting to open up, this is pretty nice. Should hopefully be great by the time the chinese food arrives.
luvdunhill Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Aperol and Sparking Water This is yummy, I like the muted taste compared to Campari. Very nice! Any favorites?
morphsci Posted April 30, 2011 Author Report Posted April 30, 2011 Aperol and Sparking Water This is yummy, I like the muted taste compared to Campari. Very nice! Any favorites? I thought this was pretty good Nice cocktail creativity Dan and Mike! Still trying to finish off some near empty bottles so I needed a gin drink and went with the Petruchio Cocktail   1 oz gin (1 1/2 oz Northshore #6)   1 oz Aperol (1 1/2 oz)   ½ oz lemon juice (3/4 oz)   1 dash of simple syrup   2 dashes Fee’s orange bitters   1 egg white Place all ingredients in a tin and frappe. Add ice and shake until your arms hurt. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
luvdunhill Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Decided to do a quick comparison Jim. To me, Aperol is much more complex than Campari. I'm really liking it. I had a bit of left over white white from dinner that I mixed it with and is nice. Really loving it
luvdunhill Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Okay, cocktail challenge! Paper Plane Equal parts Bourbon, Aperol, Amaro and Lemon Juice
Dusty Chalk Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Please tell me you poured those all in at once, two bottles in each hand, like a bartender.Equal parts...Lemon JuiceORLY? (makes a sour face) Kidding, it actually sounds good.
luvdunhill Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Nah, I'm an engineer. I use measuring devices. Lemon juice is important balancing factor. This one is solid fellow cocktailians. The challenge awaits!
Augsburger Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Sauvignon is gone. Williams Selyem Sonoma Coast Pinot. Initial whiff was that funky bread dough aroma but after an hour it has opened up real nice, no alcohol bite with a nice Pinot fruit layer.

Should hopefully be great by the time the chinese food arrives. Good choice. Aperol and Sparking Water This is yummy, I like the muted taste compared to Campari. Very nice! Any favorites? This has become my standard "working" drink (when I want something that has a nice flavor but isn't too strong). Okay, cocktail challenge! Paper Plane Equal parts Bourbon, Aperol, Amaro and Lemon Juice That looks good. Me: Had a couple of margaritas with dinner. They were pretty good. Also, I guess I haven't been drinking very much lately because I have quite a buzz.
luvdunhill Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Nice! What ratio do you use, water to Aperol? I did 1:2.
Augsburger Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Yeah, a couple of Margarita (pitchers) gets me buzzed too.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Alamos Seleccion malbec -- outstanding. On par with the Norton Reserva. I honestly don't know which I like better.

Voltron Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) Look for Dinny on the next episode of Monkeys Gone Wild! Here in Mayberry, I'm having an Aperol Spritz in the front yard preparing for tonight's SF Jazz show with Lavay Smith singing Patsy Cline. Should be fun. Edited April 30, 2011 by Voltron
