Yikes Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 My Sister who lives in Arlington (a few bolcks from Metro) called me today asking for help moving tomorrow, so I'm heading down to help (basically watching the movers). I'm going to stay at least through Saturday morning, so that gives me all day Friday to sight see. My last time in DC was in the early to mid 90's (visited the Holocaust Museum shortly after it opened), and I haven't been to the Smithsonian since the 80's. Where should I go? there was a burger place back in the 70's (Bon Appetite - President Ford use to send Secret Service agents there to get take out. When I was younger it was the air & space that drew me, now perhaps the National Gallery suits me better. Any thoughts? Thanks Ethan
Dreadhead Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I love the Natural History and the National Gallery. That said the newly renovated American History is pretty awesome including the star spangled banner.... I dunno very hard choice. It'll be f'ing cold.
Yikes Posted December 15, 2010 Author Report Posted December 15, 2010 I've lived in New Hampshire and spent considerable time in Maine, DC isn't really cold.
grawk Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I've lived in New Hampshire and spent considerable time in Maine, DC isn't really cold. I dunno. wet and windy and 25 is colder to me than -20
Voltron Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 it's snowing tomorrow Are you posting from the future?
mypasswordis Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 the key to the future lies in the past
Yikes Posted December 16, 2010 Author Report Posted December 16, 2010 I'm leaving at 3 am to get to Arlington in time, I hope it's not snowing
Dusty Chalk Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 If you can make it out there, I really like the "other" Air & Space museum, Udvar-Hazy. One I haven't been to, but want to, is the Spy Museum. Don't ask me where it is, it's a secret. Of course, if you end up going back, stop by the Baltimore Aquarium on your way.
Duggeh Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Are you posting from the future? the key to the future lies in the past "He who controls the past commands the future, He who commands the future, conquers the past." If I personally, were in DC for a day. I'd try to see the White Mansion, Lincoln Shrine, Washington Monolith and any time left in the Museums, waiting for Ben Stiller to bring everything to life.
deepak Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 Heh five different answers from four people. My favorite is the Holocaust Museum
grawk Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 my fav museum in d is koz sushi at the foggy bottom metro stop
Sherwood Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 There's still a burger place. It's called "good stuff", and it is truly that. The toasted marshmallow milkshake makes me salivate as I write this. When I was last in DC (earlier this year) I preferred the Hirshhorn modern art moseum and the holocaust museum. Since you're going tomorrow you'll never get tickets for the holocaust museum in time, so if it were me (an avowed fan of modern art museums) I'd do the Hirshhorn, and grab some burgers at good stuff.
Dreadhead Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 The best burger in town is supposed to be Ray's Hell Burger but I've never had it. I like 5 guys.
Sherwood Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 i always heard Ray's Hell was just the most presidential burger. If you make it all the way in to capitol hill, you really must try Good Stuff.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 I've had Ray's Hellburger, and it's definitely in my top 10, but you have to realize, my favorite is Fuddrucker's, so take that into consideration when dismissing considering my opinion. I do like In-n-Out and Five Guys, too, but...they're still fast-food to me, these ^^ are restaurant burgers, and I sort of use different scales for them, I don't know why (I mean, they're still burgers, right?).
mypasswordis Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 I tried a one pound patty Fuddruckers burger once, it was pretty mediocre but it did last me two meals.
